Description
Kurumi Mk. II is a Steel Angel, an advanced combat android constructed as a successor to the original Kurumi. She lay dormant in the basement of the Kagura shrine for seventy-five years until high school student Nako Kagura accidentally kissed her, triggering her activation and forging an unbreakable master-servant bond. Her design closely resembles the earlier Kurumi, yet she possesses refined systems and a distinct identity.
Her personality is defined by boundless energy, unyielding cheerfulness, and an almost childlike earnestness. She greets every situation with enthusiasm and throws herself wholeheartedly into protecting her master, often with a literal, mechanical interpretation of human social cues. That single-minded devotion drives her motivations: her every action is rooted in the desire to serve, guard, and remain by Nako’s side, and she treats any threat to that bond as an absolute directive.
Within the narrative, Kurumi Mk. II is the central figure around whom escalating conflicts revolve. Her sudden appearance sparks the jealousy of Nako’s wealthy childhood friend Uruka Sumeragi, who commands private military forces and mecha to eliminate the android and reclaim Nako’s attention. This rivalry expands when Saki Mk. II, a combat-focused Steel Angel, is awakened by Uruka, and later when Karinka Mk. II enters the fray with her own possessive intentions toward Nako. Kurumi Mk. II must constantly navigate a web of comedic but dangerous skirmishes while maintaining her role as Nako’s steadfast protector.
Her key relationships are anchored by her absolute loyalty to Nako, whom she adores. With Uruka she shares a hot-and-cold dynamic that can shift from open hostility to reluctant co-belligerence when a larger threat emerges. Saki Mk. II represents a mirror and sometime adversary, their interactions colored by both rivalry and an underlying recognition of their shared origin. Karinka Mk. II, more forward and flirtatious, serves as a persistent romantic competitor, pushing Kurumi to confront feelings beyond her default mission parameters.
Over the course of events, Kurumi Mk. II shows subtle growth: while her core personality remains fundamentally unchanged, she begins to absorb the nuances of human emotion and relationships, learning that protection can take forms beyond physical force and that her bond with Nako is something she must actively cherish rather than simply obey. This quiet broadening of her understanding constitutes her main development, tempering her robot logic with a nascent emotional awareness.
Her notable abilities include far greater physical strength, speed, and resilience than any human, as well as the capacity to manifest energy wings for flight. She can deliver devastating close-quarters attacks, withstand heavy munitions, and rapidly calculate tactical responses, making her an immensely capable bodyguard even when outnumbered by military machines. Her combat programming is instinctive, but in practice she often relies on straightforward, overwhelming force, a reflection of her direct and earnest nature.
