Description
Inari, a kitsune spirit rooted in Japanese folklore, serves as superintendent of Shinjuku Police Station. This position grants her leverage over human institutions and a secure foothold in human society. She cloaks herself in a veneer of hospitality and pleasantness, a calculated facade designed to cultivate trust and manipulate others. This manipulation extends to her subordinates, notably Kon, whose memories she deliberately obscured to ensure loyalty after personally exterminating Kon's clan. While Kon initially revered her as a mother figure, she later uncovered Inari's pivotal role in her clan's destruction. Inari views others as disposable assets, readily discarding those who fail or betray her agenda. Though she tolerates mission failure, betrayal provokes immediate, hostile, and lethal retaliation. Her core drive is the ruthless acquisition of power and control, specifically through collecting Kemono Calculi to dominate Japan, aspiring to become its ruling queen—a stark contrast to those seeking human-kemono coexistence.
Her kemono abilities center on potent illusions and shapeshifting. She employs illusions to control and transform the Shinjuku Police Station, using the Bewitching Calculus to turn police officers into puppets. Shapeshifting allows her to shift between human and kitsune forms, achieve partial transformations, or assume a colossal kitsune form. She collects multiple calculi, including the Bewitching Calculus, Sky Calculus, and Earthstone, which significantly amplify her powers. Her full combat potential remains unobserved, as she has not engaged in direct battle.
Physically, Inari embodies traditional kitsune imagery. She possesses long, fluffy red hair swept to one side, purple eyes, and distinct "fox-face" (kitsune-gao) features. Her appearance includes red lipstick, dark red nail polish, and calculus stone earrings. Her attire consists of a dark purple shirt, blue jabot, high-waisted white pencil skirt, and white stiletto heels. A signature white fur coat with nine sections drapes her shoulders, symbolizing the nine tails of legendary kitsune.
She leads a faction of kitsune operatives from Shinjuku Police Station, including Kon and Nobimaru. Kon served with blind devotion until recovering her memories and learning of Inari's massacre. Nobimaru outwardly replaces Kon after her perceived failure, displaying feigned loyalty while secretly despising Inari and acting against her commands. This faction operates autonomously to locate and steal calculi across Japan.
Inari's narrative arc shifts from cooperative management of kemono incidents with Inugami to open antagonism upon learning the calculi's potential. She severs ties to pursue the calculi for her own ambition, assembling her kitsune force to systematically gather them. Her schemes involve manipulating kemono tribes and humans alike, controlling the police force and exploiting Kon's loyalty. She relentlessly seeks Kabane's Lifestone and other calculi to merge them into a singular source of ultimate power.
