TV-Series
Description
Betterman Lamia is an ancient Somnium lifeform, existing since humanity's earliest legends, functioning as Earth's natural antibody by responding to ecological threats. His genetic structure opposes all other terrestrial organisms, shared exclusively with the Animus Flower that provides his sole sustenance.
Lamia's motivations center on his connection to Hinoki Sai. After consuming a Vivele Fruit grown from the remains of her deceased brother Mario Sai in India's Ajanta Caves, he inherited Mario's memories, voice, and physical traits—manifesting as green and red strands within his gray, scale-like hair. This resemblance causes Hinoki to perceive him as reminiscent of her brother. Consequently, Lamia protects Hinoki as the last potential source of the revolutionary Vivele Fruit while pursuing his ultimate mission: defeating the existential threat Kankel (Cancer).
Standing 200 cm tall, Lamia appears humanoid with piercing red eyes typically concealed behind sunglasses. His outfit features a deep V-neck shirt exposing the Pectoflorex—a chest organ emitting paralyzing or healing T-cell rays—paired with skinny leather-strapped pants and a scruffy jacket. His long hair resembles overlapping fish scales.
Lamia consumes specialized seeds for combat metamorphoses: Nebula (dragon-like flight with sonic Psychovoice attacks), Aqua (aquatic speed with DNA-destroying Psychofluid and cutting appendages), Forte (armored ground form targeting enemy Crumble Points via a head-mounted Sliding Saber horn), and Oltos (ultimate flight-capable form combining three Forte seeds for near-invulnerability, rapid Psycho-Birth regeneration, and a detachable Sliding Saber). Forte seeds derive from humans deceased in the 1999 Dive Inspection, making this transformation culturally taboo and leader-exclusive among Somnium.
He partners constantly with Seeme, a Somnium appearing as a large yellow bird or deer. Seeme transforms into the gamma-radiation-emitting humanoid Lume using seeds from an Animus Flower linked to Hinoki's mother, perishing while protecting Lamia and allies from Kankel.
Lamia communicates psychically via the Limpid Channel but uniquely speaks verbally among Somnium. Key relationships include transmitting transformation data telepathically to Sakura Akamatsu, exclusively conversing directly with human Yanagi Shou, and clashing ideologically with fellow Somnium Bodaiju over prioritizing Hinoki's protection versus direct engagement with Kankel.
Beyond core events, Lamia monitors the Trinary Solar System in Grand Glorious Gathering, psychically contacting Papillon Noir and Guy Shishioh. He warns Mamoru Amami and Gai Shishioh of threats like the Overlord and King of Ruin in Project Z's prologue and the novel King of Kings: GaoGaiGar VS Betterman. Lamia survives the final battle against Kankel, though his ultimate fate remains unspecified.
