Description
Ikurō Hashizawa, codenamed Baoh, is a teenage male forcibly transformed into a living bioweapon by the clandestine Dress Organization. After a catastrophic car accident critically injured him and his parents, he was hospitalized. His attending physician, a Dress operative, murdered his parents and implanted the experimental Baoh parasite into Ikurō's brain. This parasitic entity enhances its host with extraordinary abilities while initially suppressing the host's consciousness.
In his human form, Ikurō appears as an average-height teenager with a medium build, thick layered dark hair, and prominent eyebrows. His typical attire includes a sleeveless V-neck vest over a buttoned turtleneck shirt, fingerless gloves, light pants, a belt, and dark shoes. When threatened or under extreme stress, the Baoh Armed Phenomenon activates, drastically altering his physiology: his skin turns bluish, his eyes glow yellow within cracked, shell-like sockets, and fleshy strands replace his hair. A luminous vertical oval Tactile Sensor embeds in his forehead, replacing conventional senses to detect emotions like murderous intent. Color depictions vary across adaptations, with human Ikurō shown with tan or fair skin and Baoh consistently featuring blue skin with an orange Tactile Sensor.
Initially suffering amnesia from Dress's experiments, Ikurō possesses a friendly nature tempered by pragmatic survival instincts. He forms a deep protective bond with Sumire, a young psychic girl also fleeing Dress, risking his life for her. Actions like motorcycle theft demonstrate his willingness to break laws to survive. In his transformed state, the Baoh parasite manifests as a violent, instinct-driven entity enraged by hostile intent. Prolonged conflict eventually synchronizes Ikurō's consciousness with the parasite, allowing him mental control while transformed and deliberate activation of his powers.
The Baoh parasite grants rapid evolution and biological manipulation. Core abilities include:
* **Superhuman Physiology**: Enhanced strength, agility, and durability enabling bullet deflection, rock crushing, and multi-meter leaps. Hardened skin resists corrosion from his acidic secretions.
* **Regeneration & Immortality**: Instant healing of vital wounds, severed limb reattachment, and automatic ejection of foreign objects. Only total brain destruction or parasite extraction followed by incineration is fatal. Without oxygen, he enters suspended animation, ceasing aging indefinitely, surviving submerged for years.
* **Tactile Sensor**: Detects emotional "scents" across vast distances, sensing distress tens of kilometers away.
* **Armed Phenomenon Techniques**:
* *Meltedin Palm Phenomenon*: Secretes corrosive fluid from palms, dissolving organic and inorganic matter.
* *Reskiniharden Saber Phenomenon*: Generates hardened wrist blades capable of slicing nearly any material; these can be launched as projectiles via "Saber Off".
* *Shooting-Bees Stinger Phenomenon*: Fires needle-like hairs that combust on contact with body heat.
* *Break Dark Thunder Phenomenon*: Emits 60,000 volts of electricity, capable of powering external devices like laser cannons.
Ikurō's history begins as a Dress fugitive. Freed from a transport tank by Sumire, he escapes assassination attempts by operatives like the knife-wielding "22nd Man", the cyborg mandrill Martin controlled by a beastmaster, and the hypnosis-using cyborg Dordo. During these encounters, he masters partial transformations, like activating acid touch without fully becoming Baoh. The final confrontation occurs at a Dress coastal facility against Walken, a psychic assassin who atomizes targets. To defeat Walken, Ikurō severs his own arm to launch a surprise saber attack, then channels his electricity through a laser cannon. The facility self-destructs, seemingly destroying Dress. Ikurō submerges into the ocean, entering suspended animation. Sumire, adopted by a kindly couple, senses he will reawaken when she turns seventeen.
A notable non-canonical appearance occurs in the *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle* games, where he is playable as Baoh. Gameplay reflects his regenerative traits, including health recovery at low HP and special moves based on his phenomena. He communicates via roars ("BARU!") when transformed, with human Ikurō speaking only in pre-fight sequences.
Critical weaknesses stem from the Baoh parasite's lifecycle: after 111 days, it lays eggs whose emerging larvae kill the host, though Ikurō's fusion circumvents this. Additional vulnerabilities include sensory disruption via chemical agents and incapacitation by submersion in salt water.
