Description
Tamazusa, sometimes called Funamushi, stands opposed to Fusehime. This blonde-haired princess, noted for her exceptional beauty, is the mother of Rio Satomi and Shino Inuzuka. She slaughtered everyone in Otsuka Village and is considered a symbol of disaster, having once served as the legendary Satomi Family's priestess. When undercover, she adopts a nun's guise within church settings. Her personality is cold-blooded, described as lacking a heart and devoid of empathy or remorse.
Legend recounts Tamazusa as a princess who tried to enter Japan with her two sons. The younger son, left with the government, was killed; learning of this, her elder son took his own life. This tragedy fuels her motivations. She later became the model for a large doll crafted by Daikaku's adopted father, recognized by Shino Inuzuka as the woman who once "killed" him.
Within the Shin Hakkenden narrative, Tamazusa is the older sister of Tamamiko. Consuming resentment after not being chosen as the next queen drove her to poison Tamamiko. This act caused her self-destruction, transforming her into a lingering grudge that perpetually haunts her sister. She is identified as the root cause of major calamities, including the collapse of heaven. Embodying catastrophe, her actions and supernatural existence, especially as a malevolent post-self-destruction force, stem from envy and bitterness, impacting the wider world.
