First Lieutenant Kim Kyung Hwa serves as the Helm and Communications Officer on the Soyokaze. She maintains a distinctly laidback attitude, frequently flouting uniform regulations by wearing defiantly fashionable clothing during duty, a habit tolerated under Captain Tylor's lenient command. Despite her relaxed approach, often seen casually reading magazines while on duty, she remains a competent officer.

Her path to the United Planets Space Force stemmed from a craving for clarity, believing life-threatening situations would define her purpose. Before the Soyokaze, she was engaged to Odon Baek, the late captain of the UPSF Yunagi. Following Baek's tragic death, she married fellow crew member Nguyễn Hồ Minh.

Her service began with significant friction, particularly with the protocol-strict Lieutenant Yuriko Star, who disapproved of Kim's attire. Over time, mutual recognition of each other's strengths and finding common ground transformed their relationship into one of solid respect.

Beyond her military role, Kim possesses a vibrant interest in contemporary fashion and occasionally moonlights as a model during leave. Her name is inspired by violinist Chung Kyung-Wha. She is identified as Korean or Zainichi Korean.
