Description
Haruto Houjou, born into a Christian minister's family, serves as president of Saitō High School's Holy Student Council. Assigned this role due to his heritage, he manages seven school spirits using corresponding badges despite possessing only the basic ability to see ghosts. His distinctive curly blonde hair gradually lengthens throughout the series, eventually styled in a ponytail.

He expresses intense dissatisfaction with his position, repeatedly attempting to resign or transfer schools to pursue an ordinary academic life. These attempts are systematically thwarted by the school's Chairman. Haruto aspires to attend classes like a typical student, contrasting with council peers who view their duties as opportunities to avoid academics. His frustration frequently culminates in the exclamation "Oh my God!" at episode conclusions.

Underlying competence emerges despite his reluctance. When fully engaged, he demonstrates strategic thinking and effective leadership during supernatural crises. A significant narrative explores his temporary experience of normal life, challenging initial perceptions and contributing to personal growth. His relationships with the summoned spirits remain professional, though the manga depicts greater rapport development compared to the anime.

Key personality traits include strong organizational skills, adherence to rules, loyalty to friends despite a reserved demeanor, and a pragmatic outlook when navigating supernatural challenges. He often acts as the grounded counterpart to eccentric peers. The manga emphasizes increased maturity, reliability, and acceptance of circumstances compared to his more consistently exasperated anime portrayal.

Interpersonally, he tolerates Kazumi Ryudo's susceptibility to possession and obsessive tendencies, alongside Mutsuki Asahina's proactive exorcism skills and unconventional interests. Despite frequent conflicts over differing attitudes toward council duties, he maintains cooperative working relationships with both.
