Description
Kazumi Ryudo, also called Kazuo, belongs to a family deeply rooted in Buddhist traditions. His father serves as a Buddhist monk, while his grandfather, Taro Ryudo, operates a shrine where Kazumi lives within the manga continuity. This spiritual heritage defines him. The Ryudo family is notably amorous, especially towards female spirits, a trait Kazumi embodies strongly.

He joins Saito High School's Holy Student Council alongside Haruto Honjo and Mutsuki Asahina, recruited by the school's ghostly Chairman. Unlike the reluctant Haruto, Kazumi tackles his duties with marked enthusiasm, particularly when tasks involve interacting with Toilet Hanakos – spirits dwelling in school restrooms. He harbors a specific obsession with Saito High's Toilet Hanako, idolizing her as the pinnacle due to her consistent high ranking in spirit popularity polls.

Kazumi's key supernatural power is spirit channeling, allowing ghosts to possess his body and communicate. However, this ability frequently misfires, attracting animalistic or mischievous entities. These possessions typically trigger disruptive or inappropriate behavior, requiring regular exorcisms. Mutsuki Asahina routinely performs these, often striking him with her prayer stick in the "Asahina Special".

His personality radiates relentless optimism and exuberance, even amidst supernatural chaos, providing comedic contrast to Haruto's exasperation. Kazumi's libidinous tendencies, particularly his fixation on Hanako and other female spirits, frequently drive subplots and comedic situations. This also makes him vulnerable to manipulation by spirits exploiting his desires.

Within the group, Kazumi serves as comic relief and a frequent victim of slapstick, largely due to possessions and Mutsuki's exorcisms. Despite this, he remains an essential team member, using his channeling to gather spirit intelligence during investigations. His interactions with the school's spirits, notably his infatuation with Hanako and wary dealings with entities like Red Mantle, further shape his role. His function remains consistent as a source of supernatural entanglement and lighthearted antics within the Holy Student Council.
