Description
Dennis Lone is a seasoned cameraman and war correspondent for the Scramble News Network (SNN), respected for his experience and dedication to unbiased journalism. He insists on showcasing both sides of a story, even when that necessitates operating behind enemy lines during active combat. Dennis views his colleague Hibiki Kanzaki as fundamentally misunderstanding journalism's principles, though he concedes Hibiki possesses potential.
Assigned to cover the Mardook invasion of Earth alongside Hibiki, Dennis handles reporting duties while Hibiki pilots the SNN Valkyrie aircraft. Despite beginning the mission intoxicated, Dennis capably captures graphic battlefield footage highlighting casualties on both sides. When Hibiki tries to stop him from filming the harsh realities, Dennis forcefully lectures him: war represents misery, not glory, and true journalism demands presenting facts without whitewashing for ratings.
Inside a damaged Mardook warship, Dennis and Hibiki find Ishtar, an unconscious Emulator. Dennis decides to rescue her, reasoning she can fit in their two-seater Valkyrie. However, an unexpected explosion violently throws Dennis against an interior wall, inflicting severe, fatal injuries. Dying, Dennis instructs Hibiki to take Ishtar and escape, declaring the captured footage will achieve high ratings and now belongs to Hibiki. Hibiki honors the request, promising safe return with Ishtar and the footage while insisting credit is shared with Dennis.
Dennis's final act leaves a significant legacy. He bequeaths the battle footage to Hibiki and imparts a lasting understanding of journalistic integrity. Although media and government bodies later withheld Dennis's complete, uncensored footage from the public, replacing it with an edited version showing only enemy losses, his influence fundamentally reshapes Hibiki's approach to journalism.
