Description
Isaac Foster, known as Zack, emerges from a profoundly traumatic past. Severe childhood abuse culminated in his mother's lover attempting to burn him alive, leaving extensive burns requiring permanent bandages across his body. His mother then abandoned him at an illegal orphanage for money. There, he endured neglect, survived by scavenging for food, and buried the corpses of children who died under the caretakers' cruelty. A pivotal moment came when a horror film depicting a serial killer inspired him; he seized a knife, murdered the abusive caretakers, and escaped.

Becoming transient, Zack killed again, murdering a woman who splashed him with her car. He was later taken in by a blind old man whose unexpected kindness offered respite. Zack settled until the old man failed to return; discovering the man had been killed by two thugs, Zack murdered them upon seeing their "happy faces." This solidified his pattern: hunting those who laugh or appear joyful, aiming to replace their happiness with despair. He rationalizes this by believing such people "create monsters," fully embracing his monstrous identity.

Zack's personality is volatile, defined by a hair-trigger temper and obsessive urge to kill, stemming from a possible undiagnosed mental disability manifesting as destructive impulses. He despises lies, values brutal honesty, and reacts violently to deception. Despite his murderous nature, he exhibits moments of childlike petulance, sarcasm, and dark humor, often expressed through swearing and witty one-liners. Lacking formal education, he is illiterate, relying on instinctive survival intelligence over analytical reasoning. This results in poor problem-solving skills for puzzles or complexity, triggering frustration and outbursts.

His appearance is distinct: tall and lean, with short black hair and heavily bandaged skin concealing burn scars. He displays heterochromia (one amber eye, one entirely black eye) and anisocoria (uneven pupil dilation). He typically wears a bloodstained zip-up hoodie, red jeans, and combat boots. His primary weapon is a large scythe found on Floor B6 of the abandoned building central to his story, though it breaks temporarily before replacement. His original weapon was a combat knife obtained after the old man's death, and he retains proficiency with blades. Zack possesses exceptional physical capabilities: high endurance, remarkable speed for pursuit, and significant strength for combat or destroying obstacles.

Zack's development centers on his complex relationship with Rachel Gardner, the 13-year-old Floor Master of B6. Initially intending to kill her, he spares her when she displays no fear. They form a pact: she helps him escape the building in exchange for him killing her afterward. This partnership forces him into unfamiliar roles—cooperation, protection, and gradual emotional vulnerability. He develops fierce protectiveness towards Rachel, prioritizing her safety even against his violent instincts. His irritation at her "emotionless face" evolves into a desire to see her express genuine emotion, particularly a "real smile," before fulfilling the pact. This bond softens his extremes, though his murderous impulses remain.

During their escape, Zack confronts past triggers. He reacts intensely to being ordered around, reminiscent of being treated as a "tool" at the orphanage. His fear of fire resurfaces traumatically. He exhibits possible OCD symptoms, like compulsively destroying all gravestones on Floor B4 after smashing most. Under stress, especially after toxin exposure, he suffers nightmares and hallucinations related to his abuse. Despite accepting his "monster" identity, he occasionally grapples with existential questions about humanity.

Key weaknesses include his protectiveness toward Rachel, which adversaries exploit; his pyrophobia; his explosive temper leading to recklessness; and his illiteracy hindering navigation. After escaping the building, his ultimate decision regarding the pact with Rachel—whether to kill her or not—remains ambiguous.
