Description
Old Man Owl appears as an elderly anthropomorphic owl acting as the President's messenger in *Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie*. His Japanese name, Shitsuji, meaning "butler," aligns with his occupational duties. He possesses brown feathers, requires glasses for poor eyesight, and exhibits a senile, eccentric demeanor.
Tasked with delivering a message to Sonic and Tails, he travels to their island in a rocket vehicle. Engine failure nearly causes a crash, forcing Sonic and Tails to rescue him. After delivering the message, he stays to oversee their home during their absence.
While alone, Hyper Metal Sonic captures and forcibly dresses him in Sonic’s outfit—a pink shirt, backwards cap, shorts, sneakers, and skateboard. This triggers a shift in his behavior: he adopts exaggerated confidence and performs freestyle dances, irritating Tails and the President. Later, he pilots the President’s aircraft to the North Pole, crashing it into an ice bridge. Trapped inside the damaged vessel as it threatens to explode, Hyper Metal Sonic unexpectedly saves him, depositing him and the President to safety.
His personality combines absent-mindedness, senility, and frequent panic. He yells, acts erratically, and forgets critical information like portions of the President’s messages. Despite his age, he boasts of past popularity with women and claims skill in racing and piloting dangerous vehicles—though his actual abilities lead to chaotic near-crashes. He shares a friendly bond with Tails, who shows concern for him, but often frustrates Sonic with his incompetence.
His role culminates in joining the President, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Dr. Robotnik to pursue Sonic after Hyper Metal Sonic’s defeat. He has no additional canonical appearances or development in other media.
