Description
Black Count, alias Dr. Ben K. Shinobi, navigates a fractured existence defined by his shifting appearance. By day, he operates as an unlicensed practitioner of Asian medicine in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, blending charm and expertise in acupuncture to treat ailments ranging from mundane maladies to supernatural afflictions—most notably, a young girl’s enigmatic illness. This persona, the Black Count, radiates calm benevolence, earning trust as a healer entwined with crises beyond conventional medicine.

A physical trigger unravels his duality: losing his wig exposes premature baldness save for a lone brown tuft, sparking a jarring metamorphosis into Dr. Ben K. Shinobi. Stripped of dignity, this alter ego veers into lewd aggression, his hostility contrasting starkly with the Count’s composure. The two selves remain locked in opposition until Mai Waku intervenes, attempting to unify his psyche through acupuncture. Targeting a pressure point at the base of his scrotum, her misplaced needle bypasses the intended remedy, instead triggering rapid hair regrowth. The restored mane anchors his identity permanently as the Black Count, dissolving Shinobi’s volatile presence and merging their fractured duality into stable harmony.

Rooted in an eccentric background as a German doctor drawn to Eastern practices, his tale underscores the precarious balance between external perception and inner turmoil, resolved through a blend of accident and unconventional healing. The arc frames redemption not through self-discovery but external manipulation, cementing his legacy as a healer freed from the chaos of his own mind.
