Movie
Description
Myon spent her childhood in Osaka alongside her sister Yan and their father, who ran a yakitori restaurant. In high school, she and Nishi shared mutual romantic feelings, but his inaction prevented their relationship from developing beyond friendship. Years later, they encountered each other again as adults. By this time, Myon was engaged to another man named Ryo, demonstrating her romantic progression separate from Nishi.
When two yakuza targeted her father over debts at the restaurant, one named Atsu threatened her with a gun and attempted assault. In that traumatic moment, she called out to Nishi for help. After Nishi died and returned to life, she fled the scene with him and Yan in the yakuza's car. A chase ensued, culminating in their vehicle plunging off a bridge and into a whale's mouth.
Confined within the whale, Myon adapted. She rediscovered a childhood passion for swimming, abandoned after puberty due to self-consciousness about her changing body, and explored it freely. She also developed a physical and emotional relationship with Nishi, fulfilling their earlier unfulfilled potential. This period fostered personal growth through creative expression and renewed intimacy.
Her escape from the whale, coordinated with Nishi, Yan, and the hermit, marked her return to the wider world. The narrative concludes by revisiting her earlier flight from the yakuza on a train, but with a crucial change: this time, she successfully boarded without her leg catching in the door, evading capture. This altered outcome, juxtaposed with a rapid montage of ancestral and personal histories, illustrates how minor choices cascade into vastly different futures, reflecting her changed resilience. Her story ends ambiguously, emphasizing ongoing possibilities.
