Nimura Furuta, later Kichimura Washuu, was Tsuneyoshi Washuu's illegitimate son. Raised in the Sunlit Garden facility among Washuu clan members, his half-human heritage subjected him to discrimination and a genetically degraded lifespan, with branch family members typically dying by age 30. This early mortality awareness fostered a nihilistic worldview, driving him to embrace chaos and destruction.
He initially presented as an unremarkable, polite Rank 1 Ghoul Investigator named Nimura Furuta, partnered with Shiki Kijima. This facade concealed his true manipulative nature and multiple secret identities: "Souta" in the anarchist Clown group, orchestrating the steel beam incident that critically injured Rize Kamishiro and indirectly caused Ken Kaneki's ghoul transformation; and "PG" in the Ghoul Restaurant, luring humans to their deaths. He collaborated with Dr. Akihiro Kanou, supplying test subjects for ghoulification experiments and ultimately receiving Rize's kakuhou to become an artificial one-eyed ghoul.
After Kijima's death during the Tsukiyama Extermination Operation, Furuta partnered with Haise Sasaki (Kaneki's CCG identity) to monitor him for the secret organization V. He meticulously covered his tracks, eliminating witnesses by using a fellow investigator as a human shield and killing survivors while feigning grief. He exploited the Third Cochlea Raid chaos to stage a coup against the Washuu clan, murdering Tsuneyoshi with aid from V and the Clowns. Declaring himself the "Washuu King," he usurped CCG leadership, removing Matsuri Washuu from succession.
As Bureau Director, Furuta initiated the Oggai project—child soldiers implanted with Rize's kakuhou—and manipulated events to create the catastrophic Dragon entity from Rize's captured body. His ultimate goal was a global evolutionary shift by collapsing the human-ghoul boundary, driven by a twisted desire to sire children with Rize for a perverse legacy. He resigned from the CCG following Dragon's emergence.
Mortally wounded in his final confrontation with Kaneki, Furuta revealed envy of Kaneki's resilience and despair over his own abbreviated existence. He expressed longing for a normal life before dying peacefully, envisioning reunion with Rize in their childhood.
Physically, Furuta stood 175 cm tall with medium-length black hair parted right and a mole beneath his right eye. His appearance varied per identity: as Souta, he wore a clown mask, wig, and padded suit; as an investigator, trench coats and suits with bow ties; as Bureau Director, ornate white robes resembling ceremonial CCG attire, later a black coat with gold accents after sustaining facial scars from Dragon.
His Rinkaku kagune—tentacle-like appendages derived from Rize—granted superhuman strength, regeneration, and a complete kakuja form featuring armored flesh and bladed tendrils with eyes. He wielded multiple quinques, including the chainsaw Rotten Follow and the sword Tsunagi, alongside noted swordsmanship proficiency. His strategic intellect enabled manipulation across human and ghoul societies.
Key relationships defined his actions: obsessive, unrequited love for Rize Kamishiro turned vengeful after abandonment; rivalry with Kaneki, whom he tormented; partnership with Kanou in ghoul experimentation; antagonism toward Eto Yoshimura, whom he imprisoned and tortured. He maintained utilitarian alliances with V and the Clowns while harboring contempt for figures like Kijima, whom he betrayed without remorse.
