Eto Yoshimura, a natural one-eyed ghoul, was born the hybrid offspring of human Ukina and ghoul Yoshimura. Her existence defied biology, requiring Ukina to consume human flesh during pregnancy for Eto's survival. After V assassinated Ukina, Yoshimura entrusted infant Eto to the ghoul Noroi in the 24th Ward for protection, abandoning her to ensure her safety. This act fostered deep resentment in Eto towards her father.
Her brutal early life in the 24th Ward involved extensive cannibalism, awakening her kakuja and accelerating her physical development. Emerging as a powerful threat, she launched violent assaults against the CCG. She killed Special Class Investigator Kasuka Mado during a Whack-a-mole operation, triggering Kureo Mado's lifelong pursuit of vengeance. Her attacks escalated, targeting the CCG's 2nd Ward Branch Office and the ghoul detention center Cochlea, earning her classification as the SSS-rated ghoul known as the One-Eyed Owl.
She founded the ghoul paramilitary organization Aogiri Tree, operating as its shadow leader while maintaining close alliances with executives Tatara and Noro. Publicly, she lived as Sen Takatsuki, a best-selling horror novelist. Works like *The Black Goat's Egg* and *Dear Kafka* explored themes of societal decay, isolation, and rebellion, reflecting her disillusionment and serving as tools for psychological manipulation. Through this persona, she intentionally connected with key figures, observing Ken Kaneki at a book signing and later influencing Hinami Fueguchi by exploiting the girl's grief, offering mentorship, and ultimately recruiting her into Aogiri.
Eto possessed a complex duality. As Sen Takatsuki, she exhibited a playful, scatterbrained demeanor, often oversleeping or engaging warmly with fans. In her ghoul identity, she displayed calculated sadism, remorselessly slaughtering humans and ghouls alike while taunting victims about their trauma. Despite this brutality, she maintained a consistent goal: to dismantle V's oppressive system and create a world where ghouls could coexist with humans free from persecution. She viewed violence as a necessary revolutionary tool, primarily targeting military entities like the CCG rather than civilians.
Her combat abilities were formidable. She wielded an advanced Ukaku kagune capable of forming projectile feathers, detachable traps, and grotesque appendages for multi-directional attacks. Her kakuja manifested as colossal, adaptable armor with regenerative properties, enabling recovery from severe injuries like bisection or decapitation. She demonstrated superhuman speed and strategic intellect, outmaneuvering seasoned investigators and manipulating events from the shadows.
A key aspect of her scheming involved grooming Kaneki as a successor. Collaborating with investigator Kishou Arima—another hybrid weaponized by V—she engineered tragedies to strengthen Kaneki, intending for him to overthrow V as the One-Eyed King. This culminated in her capture by the CCG after a battle with Kaneki, where she publicly revealed her ghoul identity during the Cochlea raid. Subsequently defeated by Kichimura Washuu (Furuta), she was decapitated and repurposed into the Taxidermied Owl, a puppet weapon. She later regenerated but was killed permanently by Furuta.
Her final act was the release of *Bileygr the King*, a novel chronicling the CCG's corruption and V's existence. This exposed systemic injustices to the public, shifting the narrative from tragedy to hope and galvanizing ghoul resistance. Though she died, this action fulfilled her goal of catalyzing societal change, positioning Kaneki to continue her legacy.
