Description
Lean Walhalla, also known as Lain Valhalla, emerges as the main antagonist in his debut series. A solo rookie blader possessing a dangerous innate power called Flare, his strength intensifies through victories or losses against worthy opponents. He quickly dominated a New York arena using his first Beyblade, Origin Uranus Mobius 2D, defeating all challengers and dismissing them as weak. This display caught Shu Kurenai's attention, who recognized Flare's destructive potential and recruited Lain for the Raging Bulls, hoping to guide him toward a less destructive path.
Shu became Lain's mentor, providing rigorous training focused on balance, strategy, and analytical observation. Despite Shu's efforts, Lain's aggressive tendencies persisted. Shu arranged a battle against Free De La Hoya intending to humble Lain, but Lain won using Origin Uranus, further fueling his destructive ambitions. Dissatisfied even after this victory, Lain evolved his Beyblade into Vex Lucius Mobius 2D, seeking greater power and openly defying Shu's teachings. He then targeted legendary bladers, threatening to end their careers to amplify his Flare.
Tall with pale skin, yellow eyes, pointed incisors, and distinctive magenta facial markings, Lain's spiked magenta hair develops light blue or cyan highlights when his Flare reaches maximum intensity. His standard attire includes a dark-blue sweatshirt with a mint-green fur collar, indigo pants, red boots, and multiple violet belts with red buckles on his arms, legs, and torso. During resonance with his Beyblade, his eyes and facial markings glow, and the belts on his body break loose as his power surges.
Predominantly calm and aloof outside battle, Lain becomes intensely aggressive and intimidating during matches, driven by his quest to fulfill his "unstoppable dangerous Flare." He dismisses bladers he deems unworthy, loses interest in defeated opponents, and reacts with extreme anger to rare losses, vowing revenge. He openly threatens legendary bladers like Valt Aoi, Lui Shirosagi, and Shu, aiming to destroy their Beyblades and end their careers. Despite this ruthlessness, he displays a gentler side only with his pet hedgehog, Harry.
His character development occurs primarily during the Ultimate Tag Series. Initially paired reluctantly with Shu as a tag partner, Lain remains combative. However, witnessing battles between Shu and Valt Aoi ignites a shift, and his Flare begins resonating with their styles. This exposure gradually converts his Flare into a "Friendship Flare," allowing him to appreciate Beyblade as a collaborative and exciting endeavor rather than solely a destructive pursuit. After losing a semi-final match to the Hizashi brothers (Hikaru and Hyuga), he fully embraces Beyblade's deeper meaning, forms a friendly rivalry with them, and abandons his goal of ending others' careers.
Lain's Beyblades evolve significantly. His initial Lightning Beyblade, Origin Uranus Mobius 2D, powered his early undefeated streak in New York. After dissatisfaction following his victory against Free, he evolved it into Vex Lucius Mobius 2D, specializing in barrier-based defenses with moves like Vexing Wall (creating an energy barrier) and Vexing Crush (pinning opponents against stadium walls). His final Limit Breaker Beyblade, Lucius Endbringer Kou Drift, developed after a loss to Shu, deploys a free-spinning ring to repel attacks and exert control over the stadium during its Limit Break. This Beyblade secured his victory against Shu in a rematch, though Lain destroyed the stadium afterward in frustration over his lingering emptiness.
His fighting style incorporates the Lightning Launch, granting temporary speed and power boosts during full synchronization with his Beyblade.
