Description
Eckhart, the eldest child of Karstedt and Elvira and older brother to Lamprecht, Cornelius, and Rozemyne, possesses dark green hair, blue eyes, and a tall, muscular build like his father, typically maintaining an impassive expression. His personality is quiet, diligent, and resilient, though he grew more withdrawn after the poisoning death of his first wife, Heidemarie, and their unborn child—an event for which he holds Lady Veronica responsible.
He serves as an archknight in Ehrenfest and is name-sworn to Ferdinand through a magical oath of absolute loyalty. This devotion originated at the Royal Academy, where Eckhart admired Ferdinand and routinely reported his achievements to his mother, Elvira. Though Ferdinand initially distrusted him, Eckhart proved his loyalty. After graduation, he married Heidemarie, another of Ferdinand’s devoted retainers; her death deepened his commitment, vowing to live for both their sakes.
When Ferdinand entered the temple to escape Veronica’s influence, Eckhart’s official service ended, but he refused to serve another master, rejecting his father’s request to support Wilfried. He instead assisted Ferdinand unofficially while working with the Knight’s Order. During this time, Veronica’s faction approached him to serve Wilfried; Eckhart feigned interest to assassinate her, but Karstedt intervened, redirecting the offer to Lamprecht to protect the family.
Eckhart first encountered Myne (later Rozemyne) during a trombe extermination, noting her exceptional mana. After her adoption into his family, he was formally introduced as her older brother. He later accompanied her during the Harvest Festival, accepting social invitations on her behalf per Ferdinand’s instructions, and protected her from threats like the suspicious noble Richt. He also aided her during the Night of Schutzaria, battling feybeasts and leading combat against an evolved goltze.
He participated in Ferdinand’s investigation into Myne’s background in Ehrenfest’s lower city but struggled with the unsanitary conditions, leaving most work to Justus; they later broke into the Merchant’s Guild to gather information.
Eckhart’s engagement to Angelica was arranged by his grandfather, Bonifatius, due to her status as Bonifatius’s prized disciple. Both agreed to the match to avoid social obligations, Eckhart noting her disinterest in romance suited him. The engagement was canceled when he followed Ferdinand to Ahrensbach, though Angelica’s loyalty to Rozemyne earned his respect. After Alexandria’s founding, their engagement was revived, and he became an Alexandrian archknight.
As a name-sworn retainer, Eckhart relocated to Ahrensbach under royal decree. Before leaving, he transferred his mansion to Cornelius to preserve memories of Heidemarie. He assisted Ferdinand in testing defensive magic circles, using light attacks for safety.
Magically, he summons a highbeast in the form of a winged wolf. Non-magically, he excels with projectile weapons, demonstrated when he precisely struck Angelica’s armor with a knife during a blizzard, adjusting for wind without her awareness. He retains knowledge of Rozemyne’s origins as the commoner Myne, a secret shared with few.
