Description
Diable is a demonic wolf-like entity and a major antagonist in the series. He originated as one of Noir's oldest minions, with a history stretching back approximately a century to the era of Lumière's conflict with Noir. Severe injuries sustained in that ancient battle forced his initial absence during early events, leaving him weakened and half-formed upon his return.
His appearance manifests as a dark blue wolf with pointed triangular ears, a jet-black star marked with red borders on his forehead, sharp claws, and a crimson orb adorned with demonic wings around his neck. His form evolved significantly through successive recoveries. Initially, he appeared wreathed in lingering black smoke with underdeveloped hind legs. He later achieved a more complete quadrupedal wolf-like shape. Ultimately, he attained a humanoid form characterized by enlarged wings on his chest, a defined lower body, hind legs, and a wispy tail, allowing him to stand upright.
Personality-wise, Diable is vicious, ferocious, and relentlessly vengeful. He exhibits fierce loyalty to Noir, prioritizing the restoration of his own power and form above all else. This singular focus drives him to employ underhanded tactics, such as deploying smaller fox-like spirits to sow discord among fairies and animals, exploiting negativity to fuel his resurgence. He holds palpable disdain for Noir's current subordinates, Elisio and Grave, openly refusing alliances and dismissing them as unworthy peasants.
Diable's primary ability involves corrupting emotions and tainting Kirakiraru—the energy derived from positive feelings within sweets—simply through proximity. His presence generates darkness that spreads into people's hearts, turning joy into hostility and causing sweets to decay. After each defeat, he demonstrates the capacity to return stronger, adapting and enhancing his powers. In his humanoid form, he gains the ability to immobilize opponents by enveloping them in darkness.
His narrative arc unfolds across several confrontations:
* In his debut (Episode 33), he confronts the Cures to demand Kirakiraru for physical restoration but is repelled despite his corruption abilities.
* After a brief retreat, he orchestrates chaos at a formal party (Episode 35), turning attendees against the Cures before being defeated again.
* Upon regaining full power (Episode 36), he launches a decisive assault, temporarily incapacitating the Cures with darkness until Cure Whip breaks free, leading to his ultimate defeat. He is subsequently absorbed into Grave's vehicle, the Gravemobile, which harnesses his power for upgrades.
Following Grave's defeat, Diable is sealed into one of Elisio's cards alongside Grave and the Gravemobile. The series finale reveals his reincarnation years later: freed from the card, he is reborn as a puppy, living peacefully alongside reincarnated forms of Noir and Lumière.
