Description
Sōta Mochizuki attends Sakuragaoka High School as a dedicated member of the Movie Research Club, where he crafts scripts for their projects. Standing at medium height with brown hair and large brown eyes, he wears the school uniform layered with a yellow cardigan in colder weather and a white short-sleeved shirt with a tie during summer. His introspective nature is shadowed by deep-seated insecurity, particularly possessive thoughts about his romantic interest, Akari Hayasaka. He habitually imagines scenarios where others might hurt her, clashing with his conviction of being unworthy due to these dark impulses. This turmoil fuels intense jealousy, coining him the nickname "Mochita" – blending his surname with "yakimochi" (jealousy).
He first noticed Akari at their high school entrance ceremony, privately calling her "Akarin" and idealizing her as a "movie heroine." For almost two years, he admired her distantly, paralyzed by hesitation. Encouraged by friends and teacher Saku Akechi, he confessed in their third year. Though initially rejected, mutual feelings surfaced at a summer festival, with Akari recognizing her affection by winter.
Beyond Akari, his childhood bonds include Natsuki Enomoto, Yu Setoguchi, and Haruki Serizawa. Natsuki teases his jealousy and timidness, viewing him as kind but romantically unremarkable. He regards Yu as an older brother, admiring his conflict-resolution skills while envying his calmness. With Haruki, he shares film discussions, respecting his passion and honesty. Yet he sometimes feels overshadowed by Yu and Haruki’s achievements, leading him to confront Haruki after misinterpreting his practice confession to Natsuki as a threat to Akari’s affections – later resolved.
His connection with Koyuki Ayase shifts from middle-school envy over Koyuki’s academic prowess to genuine friendship. Recognizing Koyuki’s hidden loneliness, Sōta actively bridges their gap, accidentally dubbing him "Yukki" and earning "Mocchi" in return.
His passions revolve around scriptwriting for the club and collecting film screenplays. He enjoys all movie genres but especially treasures romance films for conveying wordless emotions. He habitually assigns internal nicknames like "Mahiron" for Masahiro Mimura and blushes vividly to his ears when embarrassed.
