Description
Verity’s Piplup, a Water-type Pokémon from Sinnoh, serves as her loyal starter and constant companion during her journey through Kanto—a quest to escape the shadow of her strained relationship with her mother, a celebrated Trainer. In pivotal moments, Piplup demonstrates both courage and growth. Alongside Ash’s Pikachu, it faces the Legendary Entei, though their combined efforts prove ineffective. A later skirmish between Piplup and Pikachu escalates when Piplup’s Hydro Pump accidentally strikes a slumbering Onix, inciting its fury. As the enraged Onix attacks, Ash intervenes at great personal risk, prompting Piplup to shield him with a protective Whirlpool—a defining act of teamwork that deepens its bond with both Verity and Ash.

Piplup’s combat skills include Hydro Pump, the move that unwittingly provoked the Onix; Bubble Beam, evaded by Entei; Drill Peck, countered by Pikachu’s Iron Tail; and the life-saving Whirlpool. These abilities underscore its adaptability in high-stakes battles. Later, during the group’s trek to Mount Tensei, Piplup aids in repelling hostile forces like Primeape, reinforcing its role as a steadfast ally. Through these trials, Verity confronts her past, her resolve mirrored in Piplup’s tenacity as they mend fractured bonds.

Beyond the central story, Piplup appears in a manga adaptation retaining its Hydro Pump and Bubble Beam techniques. A *Pokémon Sun and Moon* promotional event also featured a Piplup modeled after Verity’s, existing independently from anime canon.
