Michele Knotz
Description
Michele Knotz is an American voice actress known for her extensive work in anime dubbing, particularly for New York City-based studios. She began her career in 2003 after winning the Anime Idol voice acting contest at the Big Apple Anime Fest convention in New York City. This victory led to her debut role as Hajime Yagi in the anime series The World of Narue.
Knotz is perhaps best known for her long-standing association with the Pokémon franchise, which began in 2006. For many years, she has provided the English voices for several of the series' most iconic characters, including the recurring Team Rocket member Jessie, the Pokémon nurses Nurse Joy, and the former traveling companions Misty and May. Beyond these human roles, her work in the Pokémon world is vast, encompassing the voices of numerous Pokémon creatures such as Piplup, Snivy, Chikorita, Manaphy, and many others across the television series, movies, and specials. Her filmography includes nearly every Pokémon theatrical release from 2007 onward, with titles like Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai, Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, and Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle.
In addition to her signature role in Pokémon, Knotz has built a diverse career in anime dubbing. She has voiced major characters in several other long-running series. Notably, she played the role of Shiryū Chō'un across multiple installments of the Ikki Tousen franchise, including Dragon Destiny, Great Guardians, and Xtreme Xecutor. She also voiced both Tomoe and Airi in the Queen's Blade series and its sequels. Her other prominent anime roles include Chika Ogiue in Genshiken, Sanae Shikikagami in Ladies versus Butlers!, and Athena Glory in the Aria series. In more recent years, she has taken on roles in series such as Neo Alraune in Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, Rol Calcife in Suppose a Kid From the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town, and the young version of the protagonist Hiro in Full Dive.
Knotz's voice work also extends into the world of video games. Some of her most recognizable game credits include providing the voice for the Pokémon Trainer and Squirtle in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and subsequent installments. She has also lent her talents to games like Street Fighter X Tekken as Alisa Bosconovitch and Roll, Smite as the Sparrow Nike, and Pokémon Masters as Jessie. Her career has seen her work with various New York-based studios, including TAJ Productions, Headline Sound, and Central Park Media, and she is a graduate of Marywood University in Pennsylvania.
