TV-Series
Description
Chou'un Shiryuu is a student at Seito Academy and serves as a Special A-Rank fighter. At the age of eighteen, she stands 170 centimeters tall and carries the soul of the historical Chinese general Zhao Yun, a celebrated warrior from the Three Kingdoms period who served as one of Liu Bei's five tiger generals. This legacy, often tied to the title The Eternal Victorious, grants her a formidable reputation as one of the most skilled toushi in her world, potentially rivaling even the strongest of her peers.

Shiryuu has a distinctive and memorable appearance. She possesses long silver hair that frames her face and covers her ears and forehead. Her most remarkable feature is that she almost always keeps her eyes closed, presenting a serene and unreadable expression at nearly all times. When she does open them in rare moments, they have a striking, cat-like quality. In contrast to the standard uniform of her school, she wears a unique outfit consisting of a brown vest over a white collared shirt, a dark brown skirt, knee-high black socks, and brown loafers. A tiger tattoo on her left shoulder blade is another recurring motif associated with her character.

Her personality is a study in calm contradictions. While being one of the most dangerous combatants in the series, Shiryuu is fundamentally kind-hearted and deeply believes that violence is unnecessary and that most conflicts could be resolved without bloodshed. She is extremely laid-back and taciturn, rarely showing signs of effort or concern, even in the midst of battle. This relaxed demeanor extends to a subtle sense of humor and a tendency for quiet, almost self-deprecating moments, such as when she over-trims a bonsai tree and sits in disappointment with her poor handiwork. Her loyalty is her most defining trait; she is fiercely devoted to her school and its young leader, Gentoku Ryuubi, stating without hesitation that she would die to protect her. She also follows orders from the strategist Koumei Shokatsuryou without question, suggesting a long-standing connection.

In combat, Shiryuu wields the Youtou Muramasa Zanryuu, one of the legendary Hyakuhekitou swords, and is a master of a technique known as Shiden Issen. Her fighting style is defined by its effortless efficiency. In the events of Great Guardians and the preceding Dragon Destiny arc, her role is primarily that of Seito's secret weapon and its ultimate protector. She demonstrates her overwhelming power by defeating high-ranking fighters with a single, casual strike, often without even opening her eyes. For instance, she single-handedly thwarted an assassination attempt on Gentoku, defeating the powerful assassin Kakouen Myosai and her henchmen without breaking a sweat. On another occasion, she easily subdued a dragon-enhanced Shimei Ryomou and a fatigued Teni, proving her supremacy against opponents who had defeated other elite warriors.

Her key relationships further define her character. Her bond with Gentoku Ryuubi is a core motivation, and some scenes imply a deeper affection for her leader beyond simple duty, such as when she blushes while holding her. She also holds a deep respect for the powerful Unchou Kan-u, acknowledging Kan-u as Seito's strongest fighter even as their own strengths remain closely matched and rivalrous.

Shiryuu experiences very little development in terms of personality, as she appears complete and self-assured from her first appearance. Instead, her development is revealed through the circumstances she is placed in. Her unwavering loyalty is tested and proven, and small glimpses of her hidden emotions, such as her protectiveness or her quiet frustrations with non-combat activities, show a more human and relatable side beneath her invincible facade. Most other characters and the audience are left to wonder at her true potential, as she never faces a challenge that forces her to fight with full seriousness, leaving her uniform untorn and her abilities largely a mystery. A recurring visual cue, the flash of cat-like eyes and the tiger tattoo, hints at a connection to the dragon spirits that empower other fighters, a subtle suggestion of her immense and controlled inner strength.
