Hoopa, a Mythical Pokémon, exists in two forms: Hoopa Confined, a small humanoid with floating arms, a wispy tail, and golden rings, embodying Psychic and Ghost types, and Hoopa Unbound, a towering six-armed Psychic/Dark entity awakened via the Prison Bottle. The latter wields colossal rings to traverse dimensions, transporting objects, people, and Pokémon.
A century before current events, Hoopa Unbound’s unchecked power ravaged Dahara City when villagers incited it to battle increasingly formidable foes, including Legendary Pokémon. This chaos ended when traveler Ghris sealed its rage and pride into the Prison Bottle, reverting it to Confined form and birthing "Shadow Hoopa," a manifestation of its trapped fury.
Raised by Ghris’s descendants, Baraz and Meray, in Arche Valley, Hoopa adopted a mischievous demeanor, teleporting items or people with its rings while quipping, "Were you surprised?" Despite these antics, it forged deep bonds with its caretakers and Ash, whom it dubbed "Ashkan."
The shattered Prison Bottle unleashed Shadow Hoopa, which sought to conquer its originator and reignite destruction by summoning Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, and Giratina, twisting spacetime over Dahara City. Hoopa Confined retaliated, rallying allies like Lugia, Latios, Latias, and a Shiny Mega Rayquaza for a decisive clash.
In a transformative act, Hoopa shared cherished memories—moments with Baraz, Meray, and Ash—with Shadow Hoopa, dissolving its resentment. This reconciliation halted their conflict, rendering a newly forged Prison Bottle (crafted using Braixen, Frogadier, and a wild Hippopotas’s elemental energies) unnecessary.
Hoopa’s hyperspace rings enable vast teleportation, though its Confined form initially couldn’t traverse them until post-redemption. A kleptomaniacal streak leads it to hoard treasures in a desert vault, subtly depicted in adaptations. Its journey from destructive entity to guardian culminates in aiding Dahara’s reconstruction and choosing familial life with Baraz and Meray, symbolizing growth through connection and self-acceptance.
