Description
Susumu Miyanomori, the 22-year-old fourth son of the wealthy Miyanomori family, serves as a police officer in the Traffic Division, recognizable in his black uniform and white gloves. He possesses short black hair, black eyes, stands 174 cm tall, weighs approximately 65 kg, and was born on January 19.

Externally kind, serious, and refined, he treats family, friends, and staff with consistent politeness. He deeply treasures his mother, Ariyoshi Fumiko, whose common background instilled in him the value of kindness, particularly towards women. Despite this amiable exterior, his true feelings remain difficult to discern, leading others to perceive his kindness as detached or performative. Reserved and less sociable, he often mediates conflicts among his six brothers.

A dedicated reader, he enjoys literature like Arishima Takeo's "Maze" and dislikes watching movies. His introspective hobbies include a private talent for imitating others.

Susumu harbors internal conflict about his place within the family, feeling inferior to his half-brothers due to his mother's commoner status and referring to himself as "the lowest" among them. Initially, he lacks ambition for family leadership or marriage, viewing both as burdens. His interactions with Haru, a Miyanomori maid, catalyze his development. He treats her with genuine respect from the start, unlike his brothers. Their bond deepens through shared moments: lending her his jacket on a cold night, inviting her to help retrieve a treasured book (his first salary purchase) lost by a brother, and choosing her as his partner for the family ball. His growing attachment drives him to impersonate her suitor to disrupt her arranged marriage, defying expectations for her sake.

A pivotal betrayal occurs when his close friend Sumida Sanji, met at driving school and later revealed as a distant relative, joins the Tokkou (Special Higher Police) and conspires to assassinate Susumu and his father, Genichirou. During the confrontation, Haru intercepts a bullet meant for Susumu. This sacrifice shatters Susumu's composure, unleashing intense anger and a deeper resolve. The betrayal and Haru's injury force him to confront the limits of his passive kindness and reevaluate his role. Embracing Haru's belief that individuals can change their paths, he decides to compete for the position of family head, marking a significant shift from his earlier apathy.

His relationship with his mother remains a cornerstone; her naivety and occasional estate visits provide emotional grounding, underscored by her concern during crises, such as delivering a death threat warning.

Susumu evolves from a reserved, self-doubting observer into a more self-aware individual capable of decisive action, motivated by loyalty to those he cherishes and a newfound determination to define his own future within the family.
