Description
Soma Schicksal was born as the result of the Managarm Project, an experiment led by his father, Johannes von Schicksal, involving prenatal administration of the P73 Bias Factor. This procedure resulted in his mother Aisha Gauche's fatal childbirth, leading Soma to blame himself and view himself as a "monster." He became the first human successfully implanted with a Bias Factor, granting innate superhuman abilities without requiring manual injections like other God Eaters. This made him the biological foundation for all subsequent God Eater technology.

Joining the Fenrir Far East Branch in 2064 at age 12, Soma became a veteran God Eater in the 1st Unit by 18. He operated an older-model Buster Blade God Arc with exceptional compatibility rates. His early combat style involved frequent rule-breaking and solitary actions, contributing to a low military rank despite superior abilities. A reputation for high mission casualty rates caused other God Eaters to avoid him, a pattern reinforced when Eric der Vogelweid died during the protagonist's first mission with Soma.

His development began when the 1st Unit captured Shio, an Aragami in human form. Initially distrustful and calling her a monster, Soma gradually formed a bond with her, seeing parallels in their isolated existences. This relationship softened his taciturn and anti-social behavior. He protected Shio from Johannes, who sought her for the Devouring Apocalypse plan. Confronting his father on Aegis Island, Soma helped thwart the Ark Project. He devoured Shio's core to free her, enabling her to transport Nova to the moon and save humanity, temporarily turning his God Arc white.

Following these events, Soma accepted his father's motivations and his mother's death, reducing his self-imposed burdens. Newly appointed Director Paylor Sakaki tasked him with collecting residual Nova fragments, but these formed the Aragami Arius Nova. Soma blamed himself for the outbreak and rushed into battle, suffering severe defeat. After recovery, he helped defeat Arius Nova using rare Bias Factors, witnessing a Shio-like manifestation vanish toward the moon. His improved leadership and cooperation subsequently lowered mission casualty rates, earning broader trust. He declined promotions to remain in the 1st Unit.

In God Eater 2, Soma joined the mobile unit Cradle, researching Aragami with retro Oracle Cells, particularly the Kyuubi. Now 21, he exhibited increased emotional openness, smiling more frequently and engaging in historical or mathematical studies during downtime. His physical prowess remained unmatched among first-generation God Eaters.

By God Eater 3, operating under the alias Ein, Soma managed the independent Port Dusty Miller. His appearance changed significantly, featuring longer hair in a ponytail, a lost left eye with a visible scar, and a black jacket with a yellow scarf. Phym identified his inner Aragami as nearing full corruption, giving him approximately six months before succumbing. Hugo later implicated Soma as one of the "Three Sages of the Calamity" directly responsible for causing the Ashfall catastrophe.
