Description
Otoya Takechi originated in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, though her early years are obscure. During adolescence, she evolved into a serial killer driven by erotophonophilia—sexual gratification achieved solely through sadistic mutilation and murder of women. This compulsion arose from neuroticism, psychopathic personality disorder, and an inability to experience arousal without violence. Her methodology involved prolonged torture of conscious victims using scissors, a signature that earned her the epithet "Jack the Ripper of the 21st Century" in media reports due to parallels with the historical figure. To escape pursuit by an elderly detective, she enrolled in Myojo Academy's Class Black.

Physically, Otoya is a tall, slender 16-year-old with long dark purple hair styled in a messy ponytail featuring curled ends and turquoise or greenish-blue eyes. She consistently wears a white dress shirt with a red-detailed collar, a red arrow-patterned tie, a tan pinstriped vest, a matching pleated skirt, black leggings, and brown hiker boots. A brown leather pouch holds her signature scissors, carried exclusively during assaults.

Otoya projects an outgoing, playful persona, assigning nicknames like "Haruchi" to Haru Ichinose and "Shiena-chan" to her roommate. She engages in physical affection such as clinging to others and teases targets like Shiena Kenmochi by hiding her glasses. Her interests include "all sorts of games" and tokusatsu films. Underneath this facade, she is a manipulative, remorseless sadist who derives pleasure from inflicting agony. She psychologically ensnares victims by fabricating shared traits—claiming birthdays near Haru’s or identical food preferences—to build false trust. She objectifies targets as instruments for gratification and likens her predatory approach to a spider's patient entrapment.

As Student No. 8 in Class Black, Otoya sought "serial killer insurance": legal impunity for unrestricted killing. Her assassination attempt against Haru began with a threat note assembled from magazine kanji. In the anime, she framed Shiena for the note, incapacitated Haru with toxic Gelsemium elegans, restrained and tortured her in the botanical garden, and trapped Tokaku Azuma in a basement. A phone conversation with Tokaku distracted her, enabling Haru’s temporary escape. Though she overpowered Tokaku in combat, Haru rendered her unconscious using the same toxin. Failure within the 48-hour limit led to expulsion. The manga diverged: she neither framed Shiena nor drugged Haru beforehand, and Tokaku gained a definitive edge before Haru deployed the toxin.

After expulsion, Otoya broke out of prison to hunt Haru again. During Sumireko Hanabusa’s assassination bid, she intervened to attack Sumireko but was promptly defeated. Nio Hashiri later subdued her, invoking fear via visible tattoos. The anime concludes with her re-imprisoned; the manga shows her initially jailed before escaping to visit Shiena in the hospital. Her combat prowess centers on scissor mastery, wielded as blades capable of deflecting bullets. She possesses expertise in toxic flora and arachnids, though untrained in formal assassination techniques. Her preference for drawn-out torture over efficient kills frequently compromised mission success.
