Description
Otoya Takechi is a student in Class Black at Myojo Academy, bearing attendance number 8. Born on April 1st in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, she stands 165 cm tall. Her past reveals her as a serial killer known as "the 21st Century Jack the Ripper," recognized for sadistically torturing and murdering women alive with scissors, mirroring the historical figure's methods. This compulsion arose from her inability to experience sexual pleasure without inflicting pain and mutilation, a paraphilia termed erotophonophilia or lust murder. Her killings drew an elderly detective's pursuit, leading her to enroll in Class Black to evade capture.
Physically, Otoya possesses long, dark purple hair typically tied in a messy ponytail with curled tips, and turquoise or green eyes. She dons the standard Class Black uniform: a white dress shirt with red-detailed collar, a red tie, a tan pinstriped vest, a matching skirt, black leggings, and brown boots. She carries a brown leather pouch holding her scissors, reserved for torture sessions.
Otoya presents a stark dichotomy in personality. Outwardly, she displays an overly playful, cheerful, and affectionate demeanor, nicknaming classmates like "Shiena-chan" and "Haruchi" (for Haru Ichinose) and engaging in physical teasing, such as hiding her roommate Shiena Kenmochi's glasses. This facade masks her true nature as a manipulative, remorseless sadist who derives arousal from the physical and psychological torment of victims. She identifies with spiders, describing her killing approach as methodical and incremental. Neuroticism and a compulsive need to kill drive her actions, causing her to prioritize murder over personal gain like the Class Black reward.
Her assassination attempt against Haru Ichinose exemplifies her methods. Feigning friendship and shared interests, Otoya lured Haru to a secluded spot using a bouquet of Gelsemium elegans flowers, a neurotoxin that rendered Haru unconscious. She transported Haru to the botanical garden, bound and gagged her, and began torturing her, specifically targeting a scar on Haru's thigh with her scissors, becoming visibly aroused by Haru's suffering. Otoya also deceived Tokaku Azuma, Haru's protector, by trapping her in a basement to prevent interference. The attempt failed when Tokaku located them and Haru incapacitated Otoya by forcing the toxic flowers into her face.
Violating the Class Black 48-hour assassination rule resulted in Otoya's expulsion and imprisonment. She later escaped to reattempt killing Haru, leading to her re-imprisonment, as confirmed in the series' epilogue.
Her skills include proficiency with scissors, wielded with enough precision to deflect bullets and strength to break them into dual blades for combat. Though lacking formal assassin training, she demonstrates resilience to pain and moderate combat ability. She also possesses knowledge of toxic flora and employs manipulative tactics, leveraging false camaraderie to lower targets' defenses. Her hobbies include tokusatsu films and "all sorts of games."
