Description
Oshawott is a Water-type Pokémon originally offered as a starter by Professor Juniper in the Unova region. It joined Ash Ketchum's team unofficially at first, formally becoming a member after helping rescue Pikachu and Axew from Team Rocket. This Oshawott frequently exits its Poké Ball autonomously, ignoring battle situations or trainer commands.
During the annual event in "Meloetta's Moonlight Serenade," when the moon aligns above Lunatone Rock in Pokémon Forest, Oshawott assists Meloetta with concert preparations. It cooperates with Pikachu, Snivy, and other ally and wild Pokémon to locate scattered Melody Berries essential for the performance. Oshawott develops romantic feelings for Meloetta alongside Dawn's Piplup, sparking a rivalry. The two Pokémon constantly compete for Meloetta's attention, often emerging simultaneously from their Poké Balls to display affection or interrupt each other. This rivalry transforms into mutual respect and friendship after Meloetta departs.
Oshawott's battle techniques include Water Gun, Razor Shell (using its belly scalchop as a blade or shield), Aqua Jet, and Hydro Pump. It initially struggled with Aqua Jet's accuracy underwater due to closing its eyes, but overcame this during a critical mission to retrieve medicinal waterweed, where it defended against Tympole and battled Palpitoad, improving its underwater combat. The scalchop serves multiple roles: a battle weapon, a tool for breaking berries, and occasionally requires maintenance. Oshawott learned to sharpen it using riverbed stones after observing humans with whetstones.
Its personality blends bravery, playfulness, and occasional impulsiveness. It has shown courage confronting threats like Yggdrasill's Red Dragon Archfiend and using Water Gun against antagonists, though it might avoid intensely violent situations. Oshawott forms affectionate bonds quickly with humans like Yusei Fudo, though these interactions appear in separate continuity. Its participation in the berry retrieval mission exemplifies its willingness to collaborate in group efforts beyond standard trainer battles.
