Description
Luka Redgrave's pursuit of Bayonetta stems from witnessing his father Antonio die during an expedition to recover a mysterious coffin from a lake. Antonio inadvertently freed Bayonetta from her 500-year slumber within it before being killed by invisible forces, leading Luka to blame her for the murder. This childhood trauma fuels his obsessive adult quest to expose Bayonetta as a killer and avenge Antonio.

As a journalist, he employs tactics like bugging informants and tailing Bayonetta to Vigrid, confronting her with theatrical declarations about exposing her secrets, though she consistently evades him. His persistence aims to validate his belief in her guilt. His role shifts upon encountering Cereza, a young girl accompanying Bayonetta. Initially suspecting Cereza is bewitched or orphaned by Bayonetta, Luka instead protects her, offering refuge during angelic attacks and guiding her through dangerous areas like the forest near Vigrid Air Force Base. Cereza lends him her glasses, enabling him to perceive the angelic forces in Purgatorio and challenging his assumptions about Bayonetta, planting doubt about her culpability.

Luka assists by commandeering military vehicles and helicopters to reach Isla del Sol. During an aerial escape, he uses a grappling hook to save himself and Cereza after their jeep is destroyed. He later distracts Jeanne during a critical battle, aiding Bayonetta. Inside the Ithavoll Building, Balder reveals the truth: angels under his command, unseen by Luka at the time, killed Antonio, and Bayonetta had tried unsuccessfully to intervene. This dismantles Luka's vendetta.

Ejected from the building but saved by Bayonetta, Luka witnesses the climactic battle against Jubileus. He later attends Bayonetta's staged funeral, leaving rosemary flowers on her coffin – a gesture acknowledging her nature, their shared history, and the herb's symbolic meaning of remembrance and use as a demon repellent. The funeral is a ruse to lure angels, and he observes Bayonetta and Jeanne's subsequent battle.

In *Bayonetta: Bloody Fate*, the anime adaptation, Luka's storyline follows these events: his pursuit driven by his father's death, his protective actions toward Cereza, and the reconciliation after learning the truth from Balder. The film streamlines some plot elements but retains his character arc from adversary to ally.
