OVA
Description
Hina Takanashi is the youngest of the three Takanashi sisters. At the beginning of the story, she is three years old and attends preschool or daycare. As the biological daughter of Yuri and Shingo Takanashi, she is the only sister who is directly blood-related to her guardian, Yuuta Segawa, who is Yuri's younger brother. Her birthday is March 24th.
In terms of personality, Hina is an exceptionally friendly, cheerful, and energetic child. She possesses a fearless disposition and will approach strangers without hesitation, a trait that endears her to the entire neighborhood. Local shopkeepers often give her gifts, and she is universally beloved for her innocent and lively nature. Despite her young age and generally happy demeanor, she deeply misses her parents. Early on, she consciously tries to be a "good girl" by not crying in front of her sisters and Yuuta, as she does not want to cause them further sadness.
Hina's primary motivation is her love for her family and her innocent desire to maintain happiness in their new, unconventional household. Due to her age, she initially fails to grasp the permanence of her parents' death in a plane accident. She repeatedly asks when they will return, believing they are simply delayed or away for work. Her role in the story is crucial as a unifying force and source of light for the newly formed family living in Yuuta's small apartment. Her bright mood often brightens darker days, and her presence profoundly impacts those around her, even softening the initially strict landlady, Sawako Midorikawa.
Key relationships define her role in the narrative. She shares a close bond with her older sisters, Sora and Miu, and sees Yuuta as a primary caregiver and father figure. Unable to pronounce "Oji-tan" correctly, she refers to him affectionately as "Oi-tan," which becomes her signature nickname for him. Her most treasured possession is a white plush bunny, handmade by her mother Yuri for her third birthday; she carries it with her whenever possible.
Hina shows notable development over the course of the story. She gradually comes to understand the permanence of her parents' absence. The family postpones a full explanation until she is preparing for a daycare performance, at which point she learns the truth and slowly accepts it, later expressing an understanding that her mother is in heaven. Her speech development also evolves noticeably. Early on, her speech is characterized by child-like mispronunciations, particularly struggling with certain consonant sounds. By the time she is eight years old in the OVA episodes, she has overcome these difficulties, speaking more clearly and showing increased behavioral maturity. Although she grows older and more mature, she retains her core optimism and continues to act as a beloved emotional anchor for her family.
Regarding notable abilities, Hina does not possess any superhuman or extraordinary powers. Her greatest ability is her natural charm and her talent for bringing joy to others. This inherent likeability makes her popular in her neighborhood and daycare, and it serves as a powerful emotional tool that helps soften the hearts of even the most resistant adults, drawing them into the family's support network. She also adores the magical girl anime "Luna Luna Seven" and enjoys role-playing as the heroine, rarely missing an episode.
