Description
Born in Atlantia during civil unrest, Tsurugi Tatewaki was taken to Pacifice as an infant and separated from his family. Raised by non-biological grandparents unaware of his royal lineage, he cultivated skateboarding skills and an optimistic, determined spirit. His life shifted when Atlantian forces attacked him, awakening Bringer—a dormant droid protector—who revealed Tsurugi’s identity as Atlantia’s displaced prince and trained him in Battle Spirits card combat.

Initially emerging as the Red Sword Eyes of Light, Tsurugi wielded the Shining-Sword Brave, commanding spirits like Shining-Dragon and Shining-Dragon-Ark. He sought his mother, Grenada, and confronted his brother Yaiba, the Midnight Sun King of Atlantia, who ruled oppressively under regent Garudos Randall. Allies included Sword Eyes of Light members Sora (blue), Kizakura (yellow), Hagakure (green), and Haqua (white), while adversaries comprised Sword Eyes of Darkness like Brau Balm and Gordy Dain.

A duel against Yaiba proved pivotal: Defeated and stripped of his Sword Brave of Light, Tsurugi lost his Sword Eye and retreated to Stoke. There, he encountered the spirit Vargas and accepted the red Sword Brave of Darkness to gain power for rescues and understand Yaiba’s motives. As the Red Sword Eyes of Darkness, he summoned spirits such as Dark-Tyrannosaura and Dark-Blade but upheld his ideals despite dark powers. Reuniting with Bringer restored his light abilities, making him the first dual Sword Eyes of Light and Darkness. This allowed dual-wielding both Sword Braves and fusing spirits like Shining-Dragon-Overray.

Tsurugi’s perspective transformed upon learning Yaiba sought the Sword of Judgment to kill God and prevent global annihilation—a well-intentioned extremist act. Shifting from rivalry to alliance, Tsurugi united both Sword Eyes factions against Garudos, who merged with God and initiated a colony drop to destroy Legendia. Tsurugi’s dual powers helped defeat Garudos; Yaiba then used the Sword of Judgment to eradicate God permanently. Post-conflict, Tsurugi aided rebuilding and fostered continental reconciliation.

Throughout, Tsurugi displayed unwavering optimism, rapid Battle Spirits adaptability, and a drive to protect others. His bond with Bringer reflected mutual loyalty, while his dynamic with Yaiba evolved from opposition to partnership. Secondary ties included camaraderie with Sword Eyes of Light allies and rivalry-turned-alliance with Sword Eyes of Darkness members like Gordy Dain.
