Description
Gordy Dain is a character from the anime Battle Spirits: Sword Eyes, recognized as the green Sword Eye of Darkness. He is a young man with a distinctive appearance, featuring green hair that often covers one of his matching green eyes. His attire typically consists of a white shirt, black pants, a black and green jacket, and a green bandana worn around his neck.

In terms of personality, Gordy is known for his silly and childish behavior. He often acts in an obnoxious manner and has a habit of annoying his allies by referring to them with cutesy nicknames, such as calling Tsurugi "Red Light-chan" and Garudos "Gar-chan". This playful exterior, however, conceals a mean and sadistic side that emerges during his more villainous actions and in the way he conducts his battles. Initially, he seems to lack ambition or a deep personal stake in the wider conflict, appearing to be a lighthearted man who simply enjoys the chaos of the world.

Gordy begins the story as an antagonist serving the Midnight Sun King Yaiba. One of his primary motivations is to obtain a Sword Brave, a powerful partner weapon. Upon learning of a sword's location, he ruthlessly burns down a forest to draw out his target, Tsurugi Tatewaki, and successfully claims the blade, which turns out to be his missing Sword Brave, The BlackInsectDemonBlade Usubakagero. Defying Yaiba's orders, Gordy later seeks to collect all twelve Sword Braves for himself to claim the all-powerful Sword of Judgment, showcasing a self-serving ambition that overrides his loyalty to his master. His motivations evolve over time, shifting from personal glory to a hidden but genuine care for his hometown in Lemurion, which ultimately guides his path toward redemption.

In the story, Gordy serves as a recurring adversary and, eventually, an ally to the protagonist Tsurugi. He proves himself a capable battler, easily defeating Tsurugi in their first encounter by using psychological manipulation. However, Tsurugi defeats him in a rematch. Rather than taking Gordy's Sword Brave, Tsurugi extends an invitation for Gordy to join him, showing a belief in Gordy's potential for good. Though Yaiba forcibly retrieves Gordy and intends to remove his Sword Eye as punishment, Gordy remains conflicted. After losing a battle to Haqua Estoc, he begins to seriously question the opposing worldviews of Tsurugi and Yaiba. His eventual defection is solidified when Tsurugi challenges him again, and Gordy agrees to join the Sword Eyes of Light, motivated by his underlying concern for his hometown, to which he later returns to work in the epilogue.

Key relationships heavily influence his development. His rivalry with the protagonist Tsurugi Tatewaki is the main catalyst for his change, moving from antagonism to reluctant respect and solidarity. He has a tense dynamic with his superior, Yaiba, and a complex relationship with Garudos Randall, who convinces Yaiba not to remove Gordy’s Sword Eye. He also works alongside Haqua Estoc, with whom he teams up to investigate Garudos's past, even resorting to crossdressing to infiltrate a palace.

As a fighter, Gordy uses a Green deck, focusing on dark spirits and a fast-paced "rush" strategy to overwhelm opponents. His key cards include the powerful X-Rares The BlackInsectDemonlord Diabolica-Mantis and his signature Sword Brave, The BlackInsectDemonBlade Usubakagero, which he obtained from a swordsmith named Kanachi in Lemurion.
