Description
Rirōvu Rakels originates from the subterranean realm of Stoke, a land famed for its alchemical masters. His striking appearance features long black hair and vivid purple eyes, complemented by ornate purple and yellow robes with a red cloth draped over one shoulder. He adorns himself with a skull necklace and a forehead jewel, often seen carrying a rose.
Driven by profound narcissism and an intense loathing for anything he deems imperfect, he dedicates himself to obliterating such flaws. Typically calm and composed, his demeanor fractures in combat, revealing a deranged fervor. A deep aversion to crowds caused him to spurn an alliance with Yaiba, despite their overlapping ambitions.
Applying his advanced alchemical expertise, he attempted to resurrect his deceased younger brother, resulting in the homunculus Suou. Declaring this creation a failed imitation—a mere “doll of bones”—he launched a relentless campaign to destroy it, bringing him into direct conflict with the Sword Eyes of Light and their allies.
His pursuit triggered numerous battles. He bested Kizakura in a duel by summoning his X-rare card, The BlackCorpseEmperor Baldanders. Though later defeated by Sora, his resolve remained unshaken. He targeted Hayatemaru, the giant bird companion of the green Sword Eyes Hagakure, intending to use it in an alchemical ritual. After defeating Hagakure, he claimed a single feather—unaware it hid a tracker planted by Garudos, which he later found and discarded.
Forced into servitude under Yaiba after a defeat, he bargained for unrestricted movement within Atlantia instead of commandeering the purple army. During this period, he revealed a personal fascination with the Sword of Judgment. Acting on Garudos’s orders, he journeyed to Stoke and discovered Tsurugi’s transformation into a Sword Eyes of Darkness. He battled Tsurugi to gauge his new powers, warned him of darkness’s corruption, and accepted his loss.
The hunt for Suou reached its climax when both were drawn into the Green Deity Sacred Tree alongside Hagakure. He accepted Hagakure’s challenge, vowing to abandon his quest if defeated. His loss coincided with a sudden, severe physical decline. As he faltered, Suou performed a heroic sacrifice, offering his own soul to save his creator. Suou’s death drew genuine tears from Rirōvu—an emotional outpouring that miraculously resurrected his original brother, Suou. The reborn Suou first voiced hatred, but eventually confessed his true affection, leading to a heartfelt reunion.
During the ritual to summon the Sword of Judgment, he dueled Suou once more and accepted defeat without bitterness. In the final conflict, he collaborated with Yaiba in Stoke, employing alchemy to summon spirits and successfully halt the falling Iron Hammer of God. He then aided in evacuating Stoke’s citizens. In the epilogue, he returned to his homeland to advance his alchemical studies.
He wields a purple-aligned deck specializing in rush tactics, featuring key cards like The BlackCorpseEmperor Baldanders and The Criminal’s SkullBlade Executioners. His arsenal also includes various purple spirits, braves, and nexuses, such as DarkDemo-Bone, The HellMonk Fraulow, Skullplane, and The Bone Forest of Wandering Souls.
His battle record in the anime includes victories over Kizakura and Hagakure, and defeats by Sora, Yaiba, Tsurugi, and Suou. In the manga, his deck featured The BlackCorpseKing Baldanders and The OffensiveSkullBlade Executioners, with one win and one loss against Hagakure.
His relationships reflect a solitary disposition. He maintains a neutral, often transactional, stance toward others, conversing with allies and enemies alike while consistently rejecting formal allegiances. His most defining bond is with Suou—a connection that evolved from destructive obsession into a reconciled and joyful brotherhood.
