Description
Suō Rakels is a non-human entity created through alchemy by Rirove Rakels in an attempt to revive Rirove's deceased younger brother. Rirove deemed this creation a failure, prompting Suō's escape and his subsequent quest to become human to earn Rirove's acceptance. Suō possesses purple eyes, spiked light blue hair, and a distinctive purple marking under one eye. His attire typically includes a ripped purple shirt revealing bandages on one arm, tan pants, black boots, a brown cape, goggles around his neck, and a metallic black fingerless glove on one hand.
Suō's personality is marked by a determined yet awkward pursuit of humanity. He often displays aggression and rudeness towards others while harboring deep loyalty and love for Rirove. His interactions show a limited grasp of human emotions and social norms, though his actions evolve from self-centered goals towards altruism. After encountering Tsurugi Tatewaki and the Sword Eyes of Light, Suō initially accepts their help to find a mythical life-giving tree but later chooses to aid their mission to save Grenada, marking his first selfless act. This collaboration exposes him to new perspectives, but he continues his personal quest independently.
Key developments include a brief adoption by a wealthy couple in Kamata, which he abandons upon finding it unfulfilling, and growing camaraderie with characters like Haqua. During a crisis at Kolga village, Suō is drawn into the Green Deity Sacred Tree alongside Rirove and Hagakure. Witnessing Rirove's deteriorating condition, Suō performs a heroic sacrifice, relinquishing his soul to save Rirove, resulting in his death. This act prompts the purple spirits within Stoke to revive him, now fully embodying Rirove's original brother. As the true Suō, he wields the purple Sword Brave of Light and exhibits a calmer, more integrated personality.
Post-revival, Suō defeats Sora in battle and briefly leads a gang in a black market, using alchemy defensively. He reconciles with Rirove after losing a duel to Tsurugi. Suō later participates in the ritual to summon the Sword of Judgment, defeats Rirove in combat, and contributes to the final battle by providing the card Amethysnake and evacuating civilians. In the anime's epilogue, Suō works as a construction worker, while the manga depicts him living peacefully with Rirove, retaining his matured demeanor without reverting to earlier rudeness. His journey spans a transformation from an isolated artificial being to a selfless individual who finds belonging through sacrifice and reconciliation.
