Description
Yakumo Mōri is the student council president at Takafuji Private Academy. A third-year student, he initially ran representing the Security Affairs department. Though his leadership style seems gentlemanly, his approval ratings plummeted below 30% following the Ōsawa incident scandal. This decline prompts him to back an independent candidate in the upcoming election, partly because the Security Affairs department is disqualified from fielding its own candidate and to prevent rival departments from taking control.
Despite his presidency, Yakumo lacks complete authority over the Public Safety Commission. He contends with a radical faction led by Ōsawa, whom he reluctantly appointed commissioner in a compromise aimed at curbing her behavior after he took office, revealing political maneuvering under pressure. His background includes a close attachment to Kana Ōgibashi, an undercover agent working for him. He personally covers her hospital expenses and seeks those responsible for her critical injuries, impliedly linked to the Ōsawa incident or related conspiracies.
During the election arc, Yakumo mentors protagonist Yūki Ōjima, advising him to run against frontrunner Satsuki Shinonome, who threatens to abolish clubs like Yūki's Food Research Club. Yakumo provides strategic guidance to bolster Yūki's public image. However, his motives are multifaceted: he appropriates school funds to sustain medical care for the comatose Kana and intends to manipulate Yūki as a puppet president, planning to maintain behind-the-scenes control. This culminates in a confrontation where Yakumo attempts to suppress Yūki upon discovering his defiance.
Yakumo experiences partial redemption. After Yūki helps Kana regain consciousness via Michiru Morishita, Yakumo expresses gratitude. He intervenes decisively during the election climax by arresting antagonist Yuina Ōsawa, who orchestrated the kidnapping of Yūki's ally to sabotage his campaign. This action resolves a key conflict and facilitates Yūki's electoral victory.
Physically, Yakumo is slim and pale, standing 176 cm tall with black hair styled in a ponytail and spiky bangs. He wears the academy's formal uniform: a blazer, dress shirt, tie, and trousers. His personality blends cautiousness, friendliness, seriousness, and intelligence, though his willingness to engage in manipulation and coercion reveals a morally ambiguous dimension.
