Wolfrun serves as a primary antagonist initially, commanding forces for the Bad End Kingdom (renamed the Shadow Realm in some adaptations) under Emperor Pierrot (also known as Emperor Nogo). His design draws directly from fairy tale Big Bad Wolf archetypes, referencing stories like *Little Red Riding Hood*, *The Three Little Pigs*, and *The Wolf and the Seven Young Kids*. He appears as an anthropomorphic gray wolf with violet eyes, a dark gray nose, long white hair, and a bushy tail, typically clad in a blue sleeveless leather outfit. His original fairy form shifts to an arctic blue body with a cape-like collar, shorter hair, distinctive facial markings, and a three-pointed star on his forehead. His personality blends cockiness, impatience, and a quick temper, particularly when provoked in battle. He openly scorns concepts like kindness and hope, declaring himself a "lone wolf" fueled by negativity. This fuels an intense rivalry with Cure Happy (Glitter Lucky in adaptations), whom he sees as the embodiment of everything he despises. Outside missions, he displays a careless, laid-back attitude, often engaging in petty squabbles with fellow commanders Akaoni (Brute) and Majorina (Brooha). Despite claiming to prefer solitude, he collaborates with them and follows orders from their superior, Joker (Rascal). Wolfrun's primary mission involves collecting "Bad End Energy" to revive Emperor Pierrot. Using the Black Paint of Darkness, he darkens pages in his Picture Book of Darkness to create "Bad End Spaces"—alternate realities that drain people’s willpower and generate negative energy. He summons monsters called Akanbes (renamed Buffoons) using specialized noses: Red Noses for standard monsters, Blue Noses for versions immune to initial Pretty Cure attacks, and later combined noses for enhanced variants like Super Akanbes and Hyper Akanbes. When enraged, his eyes glow red, significantly increasing his aggression and combat speed. He also demonstrates auxiliary abilities, such as generating powerful winds by exhaling. His story arc features escalating conflicts and defeats. Initial encounters with Cure Happy establish their feud as she repeatedly thwarts his plans. Key battles include a humiliating loss to Cure Sunny (Glitter Sunny) during Candy's rescue and repeated failures with advanced Akanbes despite Joker's warnings about their risks. After a brutal defeat by Cure Happy in episode 44, he retreats in frustration, culminating in a desperate final stand where he, Akaoni, and Majorina accept a life-risking power boost from a Black Nose. During this confrontation, a pivotal revelation occurs: Wolfrun and the other commanders were originally benevolent fairies from Märchenland (Jubiland) cast as villains in storybooks, leading to universal hatred that twisted them into antagonists. Learning this truth, the Pretty Cure refuse to fight. Cure Happy ultimately heals them, breaking their curse and restoring their true fairy forms. His background as a fairy-tale villain is reinforced by his name’s etymology, translating to "impatient, violent, liar" and reflecting his isolation. Adaptations localize his name as "Ulric," meaning "wolf ruler" or "noble ruler."
