Description
Kazuichi Inamine commands the Library Defense Forces and directly oversees the Kantō Library Base. Having been involved in the conflict between the Media Betterment Committee and the Library Defense Force since its inception, his experience runs deep. Approximately twenty years before the main events, a major confrontation unfolded at the Hino Library in Tokyo when supporters of the Media Betterment Act raided the facility. Caught in the violence, Inamine sustained severe injuries that cost him his right leg and claimed the life of his wife.
This personal history profoundly shapes his leadership and his resolve to safeguard intellectual freedom. The German chamomile, his late wife’s favorite flower, is incorporated into the insignia for Library Officers and above within the Defense Force.
Inamine’s strategic decisions are often pivotal. When the author Kurato Tōma requires protection from the Media Betterment Committee, Inamine offers his estate as a secure shelter following a court ruling favorable to the Library Defense Force. After the Committee appeals the decision, their agents infiltrate the compound, forcing a complex extraction to ensure Tōma’s safety.
Inamine also faced direct peril when he and Iku Kasahara were taken hostage by the pro-Media Betterment faction Bakushukai during a memorial ceremony. A rescue operation was launched by Library Defense personnel, during which Kasahara aided their escape by covertly signaling their location and revealing Inamine’s prosthetic leg, a move that proved instrumental to their extraction.
