Spectra Phantom, born Keith Fermin, is Clay Fermin's son and Mira Fermin's older brother. Initially residing in New Vestroia, he trained Mira in Bakugan battles using his Pyrus Hyper Dragonoid, emphasizing patience and perseverance. Following Vestal's colonization of New Vestroia, he adopted the alias Spectra Phantom. As the masked leader of the Vexos—Vestal's elite brawling unit—he operated under a voice-modifying red mask with a single visible eyehole, complemented by a feathered red coat and blond spiked hair. His guardian Bakugan, Pyrus Helios, underwent multiple cybernetic enhancements, evolving from Viper Helios to Cyborg Helios and later Helios MK2; Metalfencer served as his Bakugan Trap. As Spectra, he pursued power through ruthless ambition and unethical means, including deploying forbidden ability cards that risked destroying Bakugan souls. He captured Bakugan for the Vexos, notably defeating Baron Leltoy's Tigrerra and securing her imprisonment. His tactics escalated to hostage-taking, threatening Dan Kuso with Runo Misaki's safety to force cooperation. Despite his allegiance to the Vexos, he secretly plotted to overthrow Prince Hydron and rule Vestal himself. This duality extended to his personal life; after losing a wager, he revealed his identity as Keith to Mira but continued manipulating her to join the Vexos. He occasionally demonstrated moral complexity, freeing imprisoned Resistance members Shun Kazami, Ace Grit, and Marucho Marukura in Beta City, citing Mira's debt, and aiding New Vestroia's evacuation during the Bakugan Termination System crisis. His rivalry with Dan Kuso culminated in a gauntlet battle outside Gamma City, where Spectra deployed Maxus Helios—a fusion of stolen Bakugan—against Drago. The battle destroyed Vestal Palace's Dimension Controller, leading the Vexos to frame Spectra as a traitor. Forced into exile with aide Gus Grav, he used the forbidden "Chaos Ability X" to evolve discarded Bakugan like Brontes, risking their sentience. After a final defeat by Dan, Spectra acknowledged Drago's strength, abandoned his villainous persona, and rejoined the Resistance as Keith Fermin. He reconciled with Mira, aided in defeating King Zenoheld's Alternative System by developing Battle Gear for Drago, and adopted a brotherly dynamic with Dan. Despite his redemption, he retained Spectra's tactical ruthlessness in battles, occasionally donning the mask during conflicts. In *Mechtanium Surge*, Keith transitioned to a Darkus brawler, with Helios evolving into Darkus Infinity Helios. His attire shifted to a black mask and coat with purple accents. He joined the Battle Brawlers against Mag Mel's Chaos Army, notably attempting self-sacrifice in Interspace to protect allies. His combat style remained aggressive, utilizing Infinity Helios and new abilities like Doomtronic against Chaos Bakugan, reinforcing his role as a strategic asset to the team.
