Description
Sousuke Iwasaki, a wealthy baseball player, upholds traditional patriarchal values, asserting women should confine themselves to domestic duties over education or sports. His vocal dismissal of female athleticism directly inspires Akiko Ogasawara to form an all-girls baseball team, aiming to challenge his perspective. Their arranged marriage engagement fuels Akiko’s determination to shift his views.

Sousuke initially scoffs at the team’s capabilities, refusing their challenge for a game—a stance echoed by his school principal, who deems baseball unsuitable for women. Forced into competition eventually, Sousuke witnesses the girls’ tenacity and skill during a fiercely contested 9-8 loss. Their performance compels him to reassess his beliefs, culminating in newfound respect for their abilities and a marked shift in his rigid worldview.

Embedded in Taishō-era Japan’s social hierarchy, Sousuke embodies prevailing gender norms. His interactions span Akiko and fellow players like Banboku Takahara. His character arc traces a transition from staunch traditionalism to open-mindedness, catalyzed by direct exposure to the girls’ determination and achievements in baseball.
