Crispus Allen is a new detective in the Gotham City Police Department's Major Crimes Unit, partnered with Anna Ramirez. Having served only six weeks in Gotham, Allen vocally opposes Batman's vigilante actions, expressing his disapproval directly to Lieutenant James Gordon. Gordon suggests Allen will eventually learn to trust the vigilante, but Allen remains unconvinced and considers requesting a transfer. Assigned to escort convicted felon Jacob Feeley to Arkham Asylum, Allen and Ramirez complete the transport only to become caught in a violent gang crossfire between Sal Maroni's forces and the Russian's Thugs. During the chaotic shootout, Allen is thrown from his vehicle onto a nearby rooftop. From this vantage point, he witnesses Batman intervene decisively to save Ramirez from being killed by Maroni's men. This life-altering intervention begins to potentially shift Allen's perspective on Batman's role in Gotham.
