Detective Crispus Allen works in the Gotham City Police Department's Major Crimes Unit. After transferring to Gotham and being partnered with Detective Anna Ramirez, he openly disapproves of Batman's vigilante actions. Allen voices his concerns to Lieutenant James Gordon, who suggests Allen might eventually come to trust Batman, but Allen remains skeptical. Only six weeks into his Gotham assignment, discomfort with Batman's methods leads Allen to consider requesting a transfer. Allen and Ramirez accept the assignment to transport convicted felon Jacob Feeley to Arkham Asylum. Following the delivery, their patrol car becomes caught in violent crossfire between Sal Maroni's organization and the rival Russian's Thugs. During the chaotic firefight, Allen is thrown from the vehicle onto a nearby rooftop. From this vantage point, he looks on as Batman intervenes directly in the battle below, shielding Ramirez from Maroni's forces and preventing her death. Witnessing this act begins to reshape Allen's perspective on Batman's role in Gotham.
