Description
Irina Jelavić, a Serbian assassin hired by Japan to eliminate Korosensei, infiltrates Kunugigaoka Junior High as Class 3-E's English teacher. Her traumatic past includes witnessing her parents' murder during a Serbian civil conflict and killing their attacker at age twelve. Found wandering in ruins, assassins Lovro and Olga Brovski adopted and trained her.

Presenting initially as arrogant and calculating ("Bitch-sensei"), she masked deep social immaturity and insecurity stemming from her unconventional assassin upbringing. Her early teaching relied on manipulation and harsh tactics, like punishing male students with kisses for wrong answers. Her first assassination attempt on Korosensei failed when he detected her accomplices; humiliation fueled her revenge pursuit. Witnessing Korosensei's dedication to the students, however, prompted her apology and a shift in methods. She taught practical language skills tied to assassination: extracting information through conversation and executing the "Kiss of Death." She gradually bonded with Class 3-E, mentoring Yada in seduction and offering genuine comfort during events like the Kyoto trip.

Her skills encompass fluency in ten languages (Serbian, English, Japanese, French, Arabic, Portuguese among others), martial arts, weapon mastery, and piano playing used to distract targets. She emphasized strategic planning and backup strategies. Mentor Lovro tested her commitment to both teaching and assassination; with Korosensei's help, she proved her worth by successfully "assassinating" Tadaomi Karasuma in a mock exercise, blending conversation with combat, cementing her dual role.

Her relationship with Karasuma evolved from professional rivalry to genuine romantic interest, moving beyond initial flirtatious manipulation to sincere, albeit awkward, interactions. Kidnapped by the Reaper, she initially betrayed Class 3-E to further her mission but reconciled after Karasuma's rescue. Post-mission, she retired from teaching, joining Japan's Ministry of Defense as an intelligence operative. She married Karasuma, adopting his surname while retaining Jelavić as a middle name, their wedding blending her Western preferences with his traditional tastes.

In her later intelligence career, undertaking overseas work like assignments in the Middle East, she achieved a balance of professional lethality and personal fulfillment, regaining a brightness lost in her traumatic youth.
