Description
Principessa Maria Angelica, originally Princess Marie Ange in Japanese media, ruled the Splendorius kingdom until its invasion by King Mercenare's forces. She possessed long pink hair, blue eyes, and wore royal attire: a gold tiara with a red heart, a blue blouse featuring yellow accents, and a pale blue gown adorned with a heart-shaped gem. In her youth, she styled her hair in twin tails secured with orange beads, wore shorter garments, and chose practical footwear. Her personality remained consistently calm and gentle, with interests in archery, sculpting, and flowers.
As monarch, she prioritized her subjects' happiness and maintained a close friendship with the kingdom's last warrior, Cure Sword (Glitter Spade in English). Engaged to Sir Jonathan Klondike (Johnny), she shared activities like archery and sculpting with him. They exchanged letters until the kingdom's attack. Maria Angelica also cared deeply for her father, the king, and expressed sorrow over his corruption into King Mercenare.
During the invasion, she used the Spear of Light to seal her corrupted father in stone. Escaping through interdimensional mirrors with Cure Sword, she released her companion's hand to prevent mutual capture. Cornered by the villain Bel and facing transformation into a Distain (Jikochuu), she performed a psychic division: her love for her people manifested as Natalie (Aguri Madoka/Cure Ace), while her love for her father manifested as Regina. This act separated her psyche into two entities, leaving her physical form diminished into an infant-like fairy named Dina.
Later, heroes located her frozen physical form on a mountain, later revealed as an enchanted decoy. After her father's purification and restoration, her split psyches had developed into independent beings, preventing her full resurrection. She bid farewell to her allies, expressing gratitude that her legacy endured through Natalie and Regina. She entrusted them and the heroes with caring for Ai, the fairy born from her residual essence. In a subsequent novel adaptation, she temporarily reappeared to acknowledge both halves of her psyche, reassuring Regina of her inherent goodness and Cure-like qualities despite not being a full warrior, before fading permanently.
