Description
An ancient evil entity embodying pure selfishness, Proto Jikochu originated 100,000 years ago as the true main antagonist. It manifests arrogance, ruthlessness, and an insatiable desire to rule the world by shrouding it in darkness. Physically, it features purple skin, red eyes, bat-like wings, three horns, a tail, six arms, and a distinct mouth on its stomach.
Sealed within the Golden Crown after defeat by legendary Pretty Cure warriors, Proto Jikochu remained imprisoned until the Trump Kingdom’s ruler accidentally shattered the seal while using the crown to heal his daughter, Princess Marie Ange. The entity possessed the king, transforming him into King Jikochuu (or King Mercenare in English). Under this guise, it commanded the Selfish Trio—Ira, Bel, and Marmo—and Deputies Leva and Gula to spread darkness by extracting corrupted human Psyches, creating monsters called Jikochuu (Distains).
Surviving King Jikochuu’s defeat when Bel consumed the king’s remains, Proto Jikochu resurrected within Bel, retaining superhuman strength, flight, energy beams, and dark energy manipulation capable of corrupting even Cure Heart’s Psyche. Overwhelming the Cures in the final battle, it shattered their combined Royal Lovely Straight Flush attack and nearly killed Cure Heart. However, Cure Heart achieved Pantheon Mode by channeling her allies’ strength, gaining superior speed and power. Their clash escalated into space, where Cure Heart defeated Proto Jikochu with an upgraded My Sweet Heart attack, trapping and purifying it within Earth’s ocean.
As it dissipated, Proto Jikochu warned that lingering human selfishness would enable its return. Cure Heart acknowledged this but affirmed humanity’s capacity to overcome darkness through friendship. Beyond the main series, Proto Jikochu reappeared in *Pretty Cure All Stars: Minna de Utau♪ Kiseki no Mahou!*, resurrected alongside other antagonists by the sorceress Solcière.
Its name combines "proto" (first/earliest form) and "Jikochūshin" (Japanese for egocentrism). The English dub alternatively calls it "Proto Mercenare," with minions termed "Distains" to reflect disdain as a core trait.
