Description
Dark Aqua emerges as the dark counterpart to Cure Aqua, forged by the villain Shadow within the film "Yes! Precure 5: Kagami no Kuni no Miracle Daibōken!". Her genesis lies in one of the Crystals of the Mirror Kingdom, which Shadow fused with Cure Aqua's power. This fusion birthed a being embodying the negative facets of Cure Aqua's past, specifically reflecting a period when Karen Minazuki, Cure Aqua's civilian identity, distrusted others and clung fiercely to self-reliance.

She manifests coldness, distance, and condescension, echoing Karen's earlier struggles with isolation. Dark Aqua explicitly rejects the need for friends, maintaining a detached and superior demeanor. Yet, her confrontation with Cure Aqua sparks a flicker of internal conflict when faced with the concept of friendship's value.

Visually, Dark Aqua mirrors Cure Aqua with a darker palette. Her bright blue hair flows in a thin, long ponytail secured by a pale blue ornament featuring a ruby gem, with two thin bangs reaching her chest. Her black costume features blue accents: dark sapphire shorts, a blue waist wrap, and light blue gems. A pale blue butterfly with a sapphire gem on a red base adorns her chest, consistent with the Dark Pretty Cure 5 butterfly motif.

Her combat abilities replicate Cure Aqua's water-based powers, manifested darkly. She summons a sword for direct attacks, akin to Cure Aqua's signature weapon. Battles unfold within a dimension resembling a nightly meadow dominated by an unnaturally large moon, emphasizing her solitude and emotional coldness.

Her narrative culminates in a duel with Cure Aqua. Despite appeals to their shared past loneliness and friendship's transformative power, Dark Aqua rages against this perceived weakness, escalating her assault. Cure Aqua ultimately defeats her with the "Aqua Tornado" attack. Unlike Dark Dream, Dark Aqua does not survive; she is destroyed and reverts to her original crystal state.

Following Shadow's defeat, her crystal is returned to the Mirror Kingdom, aiding the realm's restoration. This crystal serves as her sole remnant, with no subsequent media indicating her consciousness or return.

Dark Aqua's core function is to physically manifest Cure Aqua's internal struggles and past insecurities, providing a thematic contrast to her heroic counterpart's growth and acceptance of friendship.
