Description
Misaki Okusawa is a third-year student and student council president at Hanasakigawa Girls' High School. She first wore the bear mascot costume Michelle during a part-time job, where Kokoro Tsurumaki scouted her mid-performance for the band Hello, Happy World!. Her identity as Michelle stays hidden from most bandmates; only Kanon Matsubara knows the truth, while others persistently fail to recognize Misaki despite her attempts to reveal herself.
She possesses pale grey-blue eyes and straight, shoulder-length black hair, usually styled with a short side fringe secured by a pink hair clip. Her typical casual outfit features a grey "FUNNY" hoodie, a cropped blue jacket, black shorts, and a grey-and-black bear motif cap. She seasonally adapts this with a dark blue-violet beanie and maroon tights in winter, or a white T-shirt under a striped grey tank top with belted shorts in summer.
As the band's pragmatic anchor, Misaki acts as the straight man countering her eccentric bandmates. She maintains a laidback, reserved manner, avoiding unnecessary trouble yet showing kindness. Her interactions often involve sarcastic or exasperated remarks, especially directed at Kokoro, Hagumi, and Kaoru—whom she privately calls "sanbaka." She shares a closer, more reasonable bond with Kanon.
Despite downplaying her abilities as something "anyone could do," Misaki handles critical behind-the-scenes work: composing music, translating Kokoro's humming into songs, interpreting Kaoru's phrases, booking gigs, repairing the Michelle suit, and managing logistics for Kokoro's ideas. Her skills encompass sewing, felting (which she taught Kanon), dancing, and tennis, with physical strength honed by performing in the heavy mascot suit.
Her development focuses on reconciling her dual identity. Initially reluctant and annoyed by the band's chaos and her concealed role, she gradually accepts her place within Hello, Happy World!, shifting from sarcastic detachment to genuine investment in the group's success. Key moments include acknowledging her behind-the-scenes contributions as vital and expressing her thoughts more openly, though she retains her signature exasperation. She has a younger brother and sister, loves coffee, dislikes coriander, and enjoys family-style dishes.
