OVA
Description
Gloria Durrell stands as the oldest soldier in Squad 422, the Nameless – a renegade Gallian military unit assigned the riskiest, most undesirable missions shunned by the regular army. By 1937, her age is approximately 64, marking her as a veteran presence. She holds the distinction of second-longest service in the Nameless, active for two years before the main events, surpassed only by Imca.
Her roots lie deep within Gallia's criminal underworld. Before the military, Gloria ran a brothel. In that role, she discreetly collected compromising information on her influential clientele, including nobles and politicians, leveraging these connections within society's shadowy elements. Arrested for smuggling foreign weapons into Gallia, she deliberately chose enlistment in the Nameless over imprisonment.
Gloria operates by a complex moral code forged by experience. She holds a firm belief in her own concept of justice and expresses strong disdain for corruption and the abuse of power. Her past shapes a pragmatic worldview, crystallized in her motto: "A road is just a road." This signifies her belief that methods hold no inherent morality; their value depends solely on how an individual wields them. Consequently, she demonstrates willingness to collaborate with criminal entities like the mafia if she deems it necessary for Gallia's protection, citing the government's apathy and lack of aid when she lost her son long ago as the root of her profound distrust in official institutions.
Though she self-deprecatingly calls herself an "old hag" and doesn't mind being called an old lady, Gloria resents being treated as a helpless senior. She asserts she remains active and capable, both as a soldier and as a woman. Her personality is characterized by bluntness and a willingness to speak her mind freely. However, beneath this brash exterior lies strong loyalty and care for her squadmates, particularly the younger female members whom she watches over in a maternal or elder-sisterly fashion. She forms notable bonds with comrades like Frederica Lipps, Carisa Contzen, Zahar Alonso, and Ada Ansorge.
In combat, Gloria specializes in heavy weaponry, serving proficiently as a Lancer and Gunner. Her combat potentials reflect her background and physical state: "Underworld Connections" may increase her anti-personnel damage during night deployments; "Big Sister" can boost accuracy and anti-personnel damage near allies; "Bad Back" lowers her defenses due to strain. She also possesses "Her Justice," a potential obtained later that may enhance accuracy and defense under enemy interception fire.
Following the Nameless' disbandment after the war, Gloria returned to Gallia's underground. In this post-war life, she shares tales of her former squadmates, Amy and Annika, with young people entering her territory, maintaining a connection to her past while resuming her place in the underworld.
