Description
Prince Roland, son of Robin Hood and Maid Marian, was born in the Enchanted Forest after Marian's recovery from a near-fatal illness aided by magic. After Marian's mysterious death, Robin raised Roland among the Merry Men. Roland first appeared as a young child of about four, accompanying his father and the group.
In early adventures, Roland proved crucial by summoning the Shadow to transport Neal Cassidy to Neverland. Despite Robin Hood's safety concerns, Roland recited the incantation ("I believe"). The Shadow tried to abduct him, but Mulan intervened. Following the dissolution of Pan's curse, Roland returned to the Enchanted Forest. When flying monkeys attacked Regina, she shielded Roland and transformed one into a stuffed toy for him.
A new curse transported Roland to Storybrooke with erased memories of the past year. He lived with his father and the Merry Men in a woodland camp. Mr. Gold magically restrained and threatened Roland to force Robin Hood to surrender Regina's heart, releasing the unharmed boy after Robin complied. Roland then developed a bond with Regina, frequently visiting an ice cream parlor with her.
Roland's life shifted dramatically when Emma Swan and Captain Hook brought Marian—alive due to time travel—back to Storybrooke. He recognized her instantly, leading to a tearful reunion. Tensions flared between Marian and Regina over Roland's closeness to the former Evil Queen. After consuming ice cream laced with a freezing spell by Zelena (disguised as the vendor), Marian began crystallizing. Roland witnessed her collapse first during a town meeting and later at a lakeside park, where he called for help. To save Marian, Robin Hood, Marian, and Roland crossed the town line into a magic-free realm, sacrificing their return.
The family settled in Neal Cassidy's former New York City apartment. Tired during a walk, Roland was carried by Marian (actually Zelena in disguise). When a thief stole her bag, Robin Hood pursued and retrieved it. Roland ate a meal while his "parents" argued over Robin aiding Mr. Gold during a heart attack. After Zelena revealed her true identity, Regina and Robin Hood erased Roland's memories of the false Marian to spare him renewed grief.
Roland later journeyed to Camelot with his father and allies to confront the Dark Swan. He spent six weeks under a memory-wiping curse before returning to Storybrooke. During this time, he aided supply distribution to Camelot refugees and alerted others when a fury abducted Robin Hood over unpaid magic debts. Roland witnessed his father's rescue. Following Robin Hood's death, Little John and Friar Tuck returned Roland to the Enchanted Forest to be raised as his father's successor in Sherwood Forest. Zelena promised visits with his infant half-sister, Robin. Before departing through a portal, Roland entrusted Zelena with a feather from one of Robin Hood's arrows to give to Regina.
