Description
Izu begins as a farmer in the neutral village of Saki, living peacefully with his wife, Marin, content within their simple agrarian life.

When the coastal city-state of Itha faces imminent destruction from Paro's espionage, Izu intervenes to stop the threat, earning recognition from Itha's monarchy. Exposure to Itha's wealth and power sparks an ambition for glory beyond his humble roots.

Paro's agents exploit this ambition, offering riches and status in exchange for his service. Despite Marin's pleas to stay in Saki, Izu leaves her, believing Paro's path secures their future prosperity. He departs for Paro, becoming ensnared in the escalating conflict.

His actions escalate into direct betrayal against Itha. He participates in military operations that devastate the city he once saved. Witnessing the catastrophic consequences of the war, including widespread destruction and loss of life, triggers profound guilt and disillusionment. The allure of wealth fades as he confronts the moral cost.

Driven by remorse and a desperate need for redemption, Izu attempts to return to Saki and reunite with Marin. He finds the village transformed into a desolate battlefield. Marin, having remained faithful and waiting, perished during the conflict. Discovering only her lifeless body, Izu experiences utter despair.

Overcome by grief and the weight of his betrayal, Izu seeks solace near the mystical Tree of Life in the forest. His profound sorrow and regret culminate in a transformation where he petrifies into stone, becoming a permanent monument to his tragic choices and lost love.
