Description
Caules Forvedge, born into the declining Forvedge magus lineage, was designated the "spare heir" and caretaker for his older sister Fiore. While Fiore possessed exceptional magic circuits but was paralyzed from the waist down, making her the primary heir despite her condition, Caules displayed only mediocre magical aptitude. His upbringing centered on supporting her, though he harbored no personal ambition to become a magus and cultivated modern interests like computers, video games, and anime.
During the Great Holy Grail War in Fate/Apocrypha, Command Spells manifested on Caules while he accompanied Fiore as her backup in Romania, forcing him to become the reluctant Master of Berserker of Black (Frankenstein's monster). His primary motivation became protecting Fiore. This led him to form a perilous alliance with the sadistic magus Celenike Icecolle, submitting to her tutelage in exchange for her cooperation to ensure his sister's survival, highlighting his pragmatic and self-sacrificing nature. He prioritized Fiore's safety over conventional magus ambitions like reaching the Root, openly stating he would revive her over pursuing his own wish if she perished. He shared a bond of mutual survival with his Servant, treating her with uncommon consideration, such as avoiding forcing her into spirit form to respect her moods.
After the war, Caules negotiated the dissolution of the Yggdmillennia clan and secured pardons for its surviving members. He enrolled at the Clock Tower under the El-Melloi II classroom as a "hostage in all but name," accompanied by the homunculus Althea, who assisted with household and magical tasks. Initially adrift, his trajectory shifted when Lord El-Melloi II identified his latent talent for Electricity Magecraft—a divergence from his family's Spiritual Evocation expertise. Under this guidance, Caules mastered techniques like "Crafted Tree" (a nod to his alternate-world Servant's Noble Phantasm) within a month, showcasing his adaptability.
In the Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files timeline—a world without Yggdmillennia—Fiore abandoned magecraft, forcing Caules to become the official Forvedge heir. As a student in El-Melloi II's classroom, he embodied the "Only Sane Man" among peers with volatile talents, often serving as mission control due to his tech-savviness. During the Rail Zeppelin incident, he was impersonated by the antagonist Dr. Heartless, who exploited his role to manipulate events. His modern sensibilities, including using computers for research and decorating his room with pop-culture posters, contrasted with traditional magus culture. Despite desiring a normal life, he accepted his responsibilities, including defending classmates during crises.
A decade post-Apocrypha, Caules graduated from the Clock Tower and collaborated with the Atlas Institute to develop "Codecasts," a fusion of magecraft and technology based on his conceptual ideas. He maintained ties with former Yggdmillennia members, treating Lemina Eltfromm like a younger sister. When Lemina faced the Knight of the Round Table Percival in a Holy Grail War, Caules provided tactical insights drawn from his own experiences battling Mordred.
